Ok, I feel pretty silly asking this but can someone explain this to me:
Am I supposed to get/make two sets of placecards? One for the escort card table and one for the actual place where the guest will sit?
The reason I ask is that I want to do the votive placecards and I see in pics they are all nicely lined up on the table, so then what's waiting for the guest back at the table? Am I supposed have only either/or OR both?
Tell me what you are doing.

Re: Another silly placecard question...
I thought that once the guests get to the table, they are free to sit wherever they'd like. But I guess if you have assigned seats for them at the tables, then you have to have two sets of placecards. ???? I'm not sure.

I think they are supposed to take their place cards from the table they are set up on and bring them to their seat. So they should only need 1 placecard..I think

I'm not having assigned seating at the table. Once they are at their assigned table, they can sit where they want.

Oh I see, so if you don't have assigned seating at the table, you only need one set of cards and card holders!

Exactly! You either need something or someone to get them to the right tables either way, and then you only need something at the table, if you have assigned seating.
That's too much work for me-- the guests might switch them around anyway.
