We would also like to have a steel drum player at our coctail hour. Our DJ (who is also a sort of family friend) said he can provide one for about $600 and this particular percussionist will play at CH and then stay and play during the whole reception as well. Apparently, he plays along with the music the DJ has playing. Has anyone ever heard of this or had something similar? The DJ said it sounds awesome but I'm not too sure.

Really? That's soo good to hear. I think the difference in having him for only the CH vs. the whole party is only $200 so I'm glad to know you think it's worth it.

Re: Another Steel Drums Question
It does sound awesome but since you aren't sure, is there any way you can at least see a video of it before going with it? I would be nervous also about paying for something you have never heard of lol.
If you need a rec for a steel drum band..we used Steel Sensations for our CH (5 pc steel drum band) and they were awesome. FM me if you would like their contact info

Go here http://www.liweddings.tv/
and play 'The wedding of the year recap'... When you watch the video, there are 2 parts... The percussionist is in part 2 at about 50 seconds in...
Just scroll to the end of part 1 to reach part 2 .... Hope this makes sense ... His name is Pat Davis and hes amazing

So, it took me a little while but I found the part and WOW that does sound really good. I just couldn't imagine it but I think I'm going to speak to our DJ and see if he has any videos of the particular percussionist who will be there. Thanks so much!

Re: Another Steel Drums Question
FH and I were originally considering a dj and it was a MUST to have a percussionist alongside the dj during the reception.
I saw it for the first time at a showcase back in January and was FLOORED!
If we didn't book a band, I'd definitely be going with a percussionist along with the dj.
