Are you tipping anyone helping with the ceremony? Officiant, or music? If so, how much and when..the day of or at the rehearsal? I paid 800 for the donation which included a music fee which I feel is so high...so I just want to tip the Deacon but don't know if that is right?!

Re: another tip question RE church girls
I thought I heard that you weren't supposed to tip the Deacon but you are supposed to give the Alter Boys a small tip.

My 'donation' had to be $1000 to get married there... I think that's extortion so I don't think it'll be tipping anyone there
I just reread the post.. alter boys would probably get a little something but I'm not even sure we'll have any

You don't tip the deacon or a priest. They are giving you a sacrament. You wouldn't tip for communion - it's the same thing.
You should tip the alter boys if you are having them.

We were told by the rectory NOT to tip anyone just to give the offering.
ETA: We are not having altar boys so I don't know what the proper etiquette for that is...

Re: another tip question RE church girls
I am tipping the altar boy/girl $25 each. There are going to be 2 of them. You have to tip these kids. They are 15 years old and this is prob. what they look forward to every weekend so they can have a little spending $. My FH said when he did it many many years ago, he would get $20 so I figured they would be getting about $25 these days.
I am also tipping the cantor, organist, and the violinist - $25 each. Yes we gave a donation of $600 and we paid an extra $125 for the violinist but just as anyone else we are paying that day, we are tipping these people as well.

I plan on giving the alter boys a tip and the organist. The officiant fee covers the priest.
