Another tipping question!

I've been tutoring on the side and throwing that $ into tip envelopes so that I can gradually get them all together rather than taking out a huge amount of $$ right before the wedding

Anyway, I was reading some suggested tip amounts for the vendors on here, and was wondering about a couple of things:

1. people on here say $100 for the photographer, but what happens if I have two of them? Do I tip each $100, or can I do like $50-75 for each one?

2. DJ: $100. I have a DJ, an MC, and a jazz duo for cocktail hour consisting of an upright bass player and a singer/pianst. The singer/pianst is also the MC, so do I tip $100 to all three of these people? or can I get away with less?

3. Maitre De- $3-5 per person. I am expecting 200 people, and I feel like $600-$1000 is a TON of money, given that you pay an 18% service charge that is meant for the wait staff (or so I thought). So why does the maitre de get such a large tip??? I was thinking like $200 was a good tip!

I guess I'm just a cheap-o, but I really find it ridiculous to tip that much for vendors who make regular salaries!

I can't answer these questions, since I haven't really begun thinking about tipping.

BUT I just want to let you know that the service fee that the venue charges goes to overhead (paying utilities, staff, and for supplies ie, replacing glasses, plates, silverware so they don't look old and used), NOT to tip the wait staff.

I worked in the food service industry for 10 years, and I know that it seems like a lot on top of the fee that most people assume goes to the wait staff, but tipping is what most of those people make their living on. Their salaries are not as high as you might think bc the venue knows that they will be tipped.

I just made my final payment to WM and I was told $300-400 was a good amt to tip. we are having 113 people. I would say $500-$600 is a good amt

Maitre'D tips is usually around $4-7 pp. I didn't quiet understand this as well but after our wedding I got it. They run the show, they make sure everything is on point not just with the staff but with your vendors as well, they make sure you're right within your timeline and if anything goes wrong they handle that too. They're basically there so that you don't have to worry about logistics and just enjoy your wedding. Our Maitre'D was amazing so he def deserved it.
