another tipping question - absent banquet manager?

another tipping question - absent banquet manager?

I know tipping questions are annoying as it is a personal decision; however, I was hoping for some constructive feedback on this situation. We have been working with a banquet manager for the past year and just found out on Sunday that she can't be at the wedding. (the other banquet manager is also great so I'm not worried about that). However, the tipping dilemma.... do I tip both? do I tip my bm more than the day-of bm? any suggestions on this (as well as any advice as to what you tipped or are planning to tip your bm) would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Were you required to pay a gratuity in your contract? I was told that the banquet manager gets a piece of that gratuity.

I have worked in the catering field for quite a while. For this situation, a nice gift to say thank you to your bm would be appropriate, and a tip for your day-of-bm would be appropriate. I hope this helps.

yes, we did pay a gratuity in the contract, but i thought it was proper etiquette to also give the bm and bridal attendant a tip. am i way off base here?

I would not tip both - just the day of BM. This tipping thing can get out of control!

i believe so.

anyone ever feel that you should just throw the money up in the air and whomever catches it, gets it as their tip! sheesh...

I thought you tip teh maiter d' & the birdal assistant , but not the banquet manager. i didn't think they actually went to the weddings.
I'd only tip the substitute bm, if he/she also acted as a bridal assistant or maitre d'.

If you do tip her , you have to do something for the other one, since she did all the work. Send a gift card &thank you note to the office maybe?

My FH is in the catering business and the 18% gratuities that you pay DOES NOT go to the staff. It's sad I know but I would give a little something to the BM even though he is not going to be there-he will probably appreciate it and make sure everything is taken care of that day.
