Hi ladies! I'm taking the bar exam in 3 weeks and I am completely flipping out! My heart races 24 hours a day and I can barely sleep! Does anyone know of anything over the counter (and legal) that I can use to help calm me down? Like an herb or something? Maybe a tea? Thanks!

Re: Anxiety/stress relievers?
There's something called 'Rescue Remedy' that a few of my friends swear by. I've never tried it, but it's available at most health food stores. It comes in a small bottle and you just drop a few drops under your tongue. I think I might have to pick up a bottle in 48 days when I have to get on a plane... gulp!
I heard it's supposed to work really well for calming anxiety. Good luck with your exam!!

Best of luck on the exam, it is a grueling process. Just remember, you get your life back after the exam. What worked best for me is just to take mental-health breaks periodically. For instance, at lunch time, go out for a 1/2 walk, go to the gym for 1/2 hour, etc. Keep your cool and you'll do fine!

Re: Anxiety/stress relievers?
Hi,
I took the bar exam last year....what a nightmare but, looking back, i made it so much worse than it was!
If you want to relax...my advice is stay away from school! seriously, except for your bar review course spend as little time around other law students as possible. Especially stay away from the law library! I think that being around everyone freaking out made me so much more nervous than i had to be...i always felt like everyone was so much ahead of me and i knew nothing!
if i can be of any help...please fm me
oh and, DON'T take anything...you don't want to screw your body up anymore than it already is!

OMG, I took a practice MBE today at the Jacob Javitz, and it's like a freaking DUNGEON. They have a huge metal door that closes when everyone is in It was exhausting
Edited to say: FMIL gave me 'Ambien'. It's a prescription sleep aid. It works, but it made me feel like I was high and I hated it. But it may work for you. You should call your doctor.

I also second Ambien! I slept soundly for a good 8 hours each night of the exam! And you don't wake up groggy in the least...you feel refreshed! It was great for the Bar, and I don't think I would've got an ounce of sleep if I didn't use it.
I tried one Valium a few weeks before the Bar, and OMG...it made me hyper!
Just be sure to 'test out' whatever you decide to use a week or so before your exam.
I feel for you!

I agree with Kathy, you DON'T wake up groggy at all w/ Ambien. Just the moments before you fall asleep, you feel like you're in space

Re: Anxiety/stress relievers?
Absolutely! I was totally hallucinating...my FI asked me if it was Ambien or Acid!
I thought there was a waiter in our room, standing next to FI, of course no one was really there. I saw some strange SH!T! It was actually funny!

Re: Anxiety/stress relievers?
Good luck! I've heard a good remedy for stress is going out to eat at a different place every night. Don't ask me why, but going out to eat destresses me!

Re: Anxiety/stress relievers?
I occasionally use Rescue Remedy and it works for me, though not sure if it's a placebo affect or the real thing, but who cares, I feel calm

OMG Kathy, I literally had NO clue what was going on around me. It was like everything was in slow motion and no sound. It was very freaky

Re: Anxiety/stress relievers?
I am a fan of Flexeril....it is a muscle relaxant. I was prescribed it for muscle spasms in my shoulders and back, but it also helps calm anxiety when needed.

Re: Anxiety/stress relievers?
My sisters doctor told her to take valerian root for her anxiety (very mild case - more psychosymatic than real). You can get it in a vitamin store.
