I apologize ladies if there is a post for this already...
Before the big day, many people do teeth whitening (which I'm working on... cheap I might add...) etc. but I want to have either laser hair removal or electrolysis done. Any advice on which is better, where to go, and price? I live on Long Island and work in NYC, so I can go anywhere in the boros! Thanks!

Electrolysis is a waste of money. I am doing laser hair removal. It is very $$$ but worth it.

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
I've done laser hair removal. I'm a little mixed. I went for six sessions, and although there is a lot less hair, there is still some hair. So I think I will get electrolysis on the rest. What ever you decide, remember, laser is hair reduction, not removal. The only method that is permanent removal is electrolysis. I know tons about both, and I can go on for hours. FM me is you have specific questions.

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
I recommend electrolysis for small areas and laser hair removal for large areas. However, they do say that electrolysis is the only permanent hair loss solution. I have had really great results...I haven't returned in years.

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
I had one treatment for the laser hair removal on my legs...and I already notice a difference!!! I paid up front for 5 treatments, and they have to be spaced out over a month or so.
If you're going to do the laser, be sure to start soon.

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
Thanks... You guys are funny!
OK- Yep, I've tried a few sessions in electroysis and I noticed it took a while to come back, but it came back. So I think I'm ready to try Laser hair removal now. I know it's not completely perm, but if it stays away for a good while... I'll be happy!
Does anyone have any recommendations, and those who've tried Laser &/or electrolysis, how much did it run you?

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
The reason some hair will come back with both electrolysis and laser is b/c hair grows in cycles - so at any given time, you are not getting all the hair. That's why you need to go back for a long time to get everything. I don't know how much laser has changed in the past year or so - but i had asked my dermatologist about it and they told me it worked much better on fair skin then darker skin (I'm pretty tan) and that once you started doing it - you needed tostay out of the sun - not a problem this time of year - but find out how successful it will be with your skin tone.

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
Funny you say that... my dermatologist went out of his way to recommend a specific laser for my skin tone/type. He said the Lyra laser is good for ethnic people and that with a few treatments, I would be virtually hair free.
I am willing to give it a try. I had electrolysis before and it was explained to me that hair grows in cycles etc. and so I understood that I would keep seeing hair, but I never saw a change in the amount of hair and I got treatment over a six month period.
Someone asked what area I wanted to treat and I don't believe I answered. I want to treat the underarms. I want not one blemish for that sleeveless/strapless dress!

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
I highly highly recommend electrolosis over laser hair removal. Electorlosys is the only PERMANENT method of hair removal. While electrolosys is very $$$$ IMO it is def. worth it and not a waste of money because the hair removal is permament. Granted, you have to go for a couple of sessions, once you're done that's it, there is no going back. Hope this helps! I can recommend someone excellent if you are interested FM me.

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
I'm sorry but i dont agree that electorlosis is a permanent hair removal! I have not personally done it but my mother did for years and years as a young adult! You should see her face- still tons and tons of hair! She will attest to it being a waste of money.
I have always wanted to try laser but dont have the moolah and am always afraid it would be a waste too. I just wax, thread, and shave. Sucks, I know. Also, a waste of $ but all I can afford now!!

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
Laser is also considered permanent form of removal now since the lasers have been drastically improved over the years. My electrologist would only do laser if it was permanent, and she just started offering it about a year ago.
I would say they are both worth it. Electrolysis works wonders, but you have to give it time to work, and you cannot shave or Nair the area at all as that defeats the whole purpose.
Laser is a much more instant gratification method. I've had my bikini line done about 4 times, and the last time was over 3 months ago - and still nothing is there. Like someone else said, hair grows in cycles, so you will not get everything in one zap. I would definitely go laser if you want to do your underarms as it won't take as long to see results, and it will a lot less time consuming and painful.
To the ladies that never saw any results, you might want to try a different electrologist or laser person. If you are not seeing results, then your electrologist may not be inserting the probe correctly, which will not kill the root of the hair. I've seen this happen to a few friends, they found someone else, and immediately started seeing results.
Just my $.02

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
You're right, I sometimes wonder if my electrologist was treating me correctly. When she cleared the area, it was beautiful for days, but would grow back in under a week. I know hair grows in cycles but after six months of being treated every two weeks I was disappointed.
I keep hearing that they're introducing better and better lasers and so in effect, it's viturally permanent now too. I guess that's why I want to try it.
Anyone have any idea of cost?

Re: Any advice on hair removal?
Laser cost depends on the laser person. My first treatment I think was around $150. But every visit after that was reduced by $50. It is some of the best money I have spent. I'm also considering using laser on my underarms as well in the spring.
