Any brides going to or have gone to Australia????

So.........FH and I have been planning to go to Australia for our HM. We were thinking of using Qantas and getting the Aussie Airpass so we could jump around the country. We originally had planned on flying business class. BUT..........tickets are $10K each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering if anyone has flown to Australia economy class and how terrible it really is. FH is worried that we're going to be miserable on a 24 hour flight if we're in regular economy class.

Thoughts? Experiences?????

I have been to Australia twice and both times on economy. It wasn't horribly uncomfortable. I flew from Newark to LA, and after a 2 hour layover, I flew to Sydney which I think was 12-13 hours.

Could you perhaps fly business class one way and economy the other?

Thanks. We've been talking for years (before we even got engaged) how we wanted to go to Australia for our HM. Economy seats are like $8K cheaper than business class.....it's ridiculous!!!!!

Anyone else?????

Hi! I have flown to Australia in economy and it isn't that bad (actually I have never flown first class so I don't know what I'm missing...!). I flew from Philly to LA, then LA to Fiji (with a nice 8 hour layover to relax on the beach-recommended) and then Fiji to Melbourne. I slept on the last 2 legs since they were technically 'overnight.' Just watch the millions of movies and/or take Ambien which will knock you out for a good 8 hours.

I'm also going to Australia (& New Zealand) for my HM and got a sweet deal on Qantas ($900 round trip) with just one layover in LA. For our flights to the Great Barrier Reef in the Whitsundays we are using Pacific Blue, the Virgin airline.

We just booked a lot of the honeymoon recently, so if you need any info/tips on Melbourne, Sydney, the Whitsundays or Brisbane, let me know!

I have family in Australia and my family flies economy all the time. Its not that bad. I flew on Qantas economy two years ago. We stopped in LAX. The flight from JFK to LAX was empty so we had the whole middle row to ourselves and slept. From LAX to JFK was packed-which is usually the case. But it really wasn't that bad...and I'm such an antsy pain in the butt with being in one place for a long period of time. I got up to walk up and down the aisle a bunch of times because of my ADD issues and to stretch my legs. I would totally do it again.

I have been to Australia and flew economy and it is not that bad. It is a little roomier then if you were flying to Florida. The flights are over night so just take something to make you fall asleep and it really isnt that bad. When you get to the airport maybe they''ll upgrade you cause your on your honeymoon!!! My other advice is stay awake on the flight from NY to Cali thats what I did and I slept the WHOLE time from LA to Syndey!!!

Hi Laura - I flew to Japan about a year ago for work and on the way there I wasn't on a passenger flight, but on the way home I think I flew from Tokyo economy. No horror stories to share. Honestly, I don't even really recall - so it couldn't have been that bad! It's a long flight no matter where you are seated . . .

As an aside: Mike and I are trying to decide on our honeymoon and have ruled out long flights. Oh well, so long Australia or Bali!

I flew to Australia in 2000 when I won a contest on the radio in Boston to meet my favorite band.

They flew us Boston to LA then LA to Sydney. Economy. I was in the middle.

It was the best experience of my LIFE!!!!!

The flight wasn't bad at all. We were on United. Didn't feel cramped or anything.

Thanks everyone! Can't wait to show FH this. I also spoke to one of my co-workers who has been to Australia and she said the same thing. She flew economy and said it wasn't bad at all. Hopefully FH will be willing to take everyone's word for it!!!!!
