Any Catholics who...

still need to make Confirmation before their wedding?

My FH has this problem right now and he is driving me nuts over it! When we booked our church the deacon said all he has to do is sign-up for the classes they usually take a year at this particular parish. So now I'm freaking because my FH's schedule with work is really crazy and he still hasn't found out about it even though I've been nagging him over it. Also with this, the deacon told him if for whatever reason he's not able to finish the classes before we get married, that he can continue them after the wedding. I wish he didn't tell him that cuz now I feel that my FH is counting on this.

Does anyone know of any short-term Confirmation classes anywhere?

I am Catholic getting married in a Catholic Church. I also haven't been confirmed but our Priest said I don't have to. All we need is First Communion. I am going to call and ask again.

Ooo...I would def. call and ask again b/c when FH got his baptismal cert. from his church it was stamped saying that he received confirmation b/c that is what they look for since it is the last sacrement he recieved before marriage (they want to make sure you haven't been married before)

Talk to you FH and let him know how much this is stressing you out and hopefully he will get his @ss in gear because he does not want to see you like this! He will get it done!!

I would talk to your church and make sure that he can take the clasees after the wedding just in case. Also rememebr that preist and rules change, so take that into consideration sinc you arent getting married till next year. Technically you are suppose to have did all the sacraments includin confirmation before marriage. Some churches are more leniant than others, like my church just asked for proof of baprtism and nothing else.. I was a little nervous because eFH says he did his confirmation but with a sneaky smile. I feel like he is lying so I don’t make him take the classes. The only reason why I am not pushing him is because my church dosent ask for proof.

I'm pretty positive that you have to make all your sacraments (baptism, first communion and confirmation) before you are married.

My church (St aidans) told us you do not need to have Confirmation before marriage. I am positive about this because my fiance was not confirmed and was a huge stress out concern for me too. My FH said he would do it anyway for me though, but it is definately not mandatory!!!! FM me if you have any more questions about it.

Depending on what kind of ceremony you have, you may not need it. For couples looking to have a ceremony only, Baptism is only needed. For those looking to have a full mass, then yes both bride and groom need to have baptism, communion and confirmation. Hope that clears up the confusion.

Re: Any Catholics who...

I do not agree with the above brides post because I am having a full mass (at St Aidans as I said) and my FH does not need Confirmation to have a full mass. Im sure of this because we made a big deal about finding out because it was a big concern of mine. As I said above, he is going to get confirmed anyway--but it is in no way mandatory at my church. The best thing to do is just check with the priest doing your mass as well as whoever the leader of the Faith Formation(or whatever they call it at your church) just to double check it for your own sanity. But I know at my church it is not mandatory for a full mass and I consider my church pretty traditional.

I asked repeatedly and my priest said that confirmation is not needed (for my FH). I guess that's because we're just having the ceremony-who knows. I wonder if it depends on the priest??

Wait - I'm confused now...

I thought as long as one person (bride OR groom) is Catholic, than the other one doesn't have to be Catholic?

I'm Maronite (Catholic, but not Roman) and FI is only baptized Catholic. I've received everything, and we're getting married at my church. Our Msgr. is 'adopting' FI into the church, knowing he's only been baptized, and doesn't have to go through everything else.

<-------So confused...It's very silly that all these parishes would have different rules concerning this!

I think God may be punishing me on this one since we are not getting married at my parish, Who knows!

He needs to get in touch with someone on this matter, I've always done all the dirty work with phone calls and stuff...this one's his baby, I guess I've gotta put my foot down!

That's right girl stand your ground..

I don't understand I thougt the rules were suppose to be the same for all catholic churches, my church hasnt said anything about confirmation.

But I am relieved, because I just demanded that FH be honset woth me and he said he was confirmed, jsut doenst know which church. As a catholic it makes me feel better that he has all his sacraments...
