Any computer geeks?

It's worth a shot.

FFIL desktop computer crashed last night. It's a Dell and when he goes to start it up, the startup page blinks for a second then it's a black screen with the curser in the top left corner. Nothing happens.

FH tried to mess with it and when he went to the F12 screen it showed all the harddrive stuff as OFF. When he turned it back on it showed Drives 1 & 3 as missing.

Anyone know what this means? Does he just need a new computer?

I'd say the harddrive is dead. Not sure if it's worth junking the whole laptop, or replacing the harddrive, depends on what it would cost, etc!

Thanks! That's what I was thinking too. It's about 6-7 years old. Ancient!

Press F8 during the start up beginning, you can keep on pressing it. Then there should be an option for last good configuration. If that doesn't help, try booting into safe mode.
