Any Current Caregivers Among the Moms?

Love my Mom, wish I could do more for her in some ways, pray that THE LORD gives her the best, in these last years. But, as the only caregiver she has, my Brother living out of state, and with my own aging issues, sometimes, I want to say, 'Stop the world, I want to get off!!!!!!!!!!!!', just briefly anyway. Any other caregivers and your thoughts? Have to leave now to take Mom to a Dr. appt. Mary

Hi Mary,
I hear you! I cared for my mom for years. She had dementia that progressed for about 6 years. It was tough. I felt like I was on a spinning top....no way off. She pased away almost 3 years ago and I look back and can't believe what I had done every day for years! I miss her very much.
Be good to yourself...you need tlc as well as she does, so always remember to take care of yourself.

Thanks, Kathy!! Sometimes we just need to be affirmed, that we deserve some time off. The thing that bothers me the most is when people don't understand why my stuff isn't getting done. Especially try to explain to a man!!! The thinking is that I'm Wonder Woman, and can do it all!!!! Sometimes I picture myself as being an octopus, and there's a person, pulling on each of my arms, to do something for them. I can do those things, but don't criticize how the house looks, or why didn't I get xyz done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vent over. Mary

Re: Any Current Caregivers Among the Moms?

I was the caregiver to my mom for a while and was also caring for my boys too...they were a lot younger then. It was not easy and as I recall they call that the sandwich generation when you are caring for a parent and your own children. We did eventually get her a home health aid which was good. The only problem with that was when her regular girl was off you never knew who they would replace her with for lets say a weekend. When that happened I would stick around more then I would normally do when her regular girl was here.
P.S. My mom had dementia too (she would tell us she saw ghosts) along with not being able to walk that well and having mini strokes all the time. It is not easy, but you do what you have to do and go on. Us moms are pretty resilient and can do a lot.

Re: Any Current Caregivers Among the Moms?

Good morning, Liz!!!! Don't mind me. Some days of caregiving are a bit harder. Especially with my arm in more pain lately. Still haven't inquired about getting the fluid removed, which I certainly hope is an option. My other option is surgery to remove inflamed tissue, which I don't want. Have a great day!! Mary

Don't you worry Mary I know how hard it is and when you are in pain it seems 50 times harder. Now go make a call and see about getting the fluid removed (if it can be). We want you healthy and happy for your beautiful daughter's wedding.
Have a good one!

Re: Any Current Caregivers Among the Moms?

Hi Liz!!!!
Took a nap after church and Bob Evans. Boy were those raspberry crepes delicious!!!!!! Asked Debi if she was coming over to finish the Save The Dates, and she was relaxing, looking at the new books she had just gotten with her Barnes and Noble gift cert. She got one on Bridal Showers; I told Fred to tell her, that's my book, since I'm having the shower! I don't mind planning the shower, which Debi knows about, because it had to be on one of the only two days she has available!! It will be at a tea place. But, she wants games!!! I've never been much of a game person. I do want to have some surprise stuff, so I'm going to research this. Any ideas, FM me Moms!!! Debi is looking in sometimes!!
We're suppose to get a few inches of snow. How about New York? Mary
