Re: Any Drs. out there? keep last name
I am going to take my FH last name. I will be graduating medical school after our wedding - they will still announce my maiden name at the ceremony but I will forever be known as Dr. White from then on!

Re: Any Drs. out there? keep last name
I just graduated (Phd Dr not MD Dr) and I will be changing my last name. I have a few publications and such in my maiden name, but since I will just be starting out my career I don't think it's a big deal to change it.

Re: Any Drs. out there? keep last name
I kept my maiden name and hyphenated my marriage license. Once you're out in practice and have diplomas and medical licenses, it's very difficult to switch to a different name if your diploma is in your maiden name.

Re: Any Drs. out there? keep last name
At first, I was going to keep my maiden name for prof'l purposes but then decided to just change my prof'l license along with everything else. Otherwise, if i were to hyphenate, my last name would be super long and I could see myself getting annoyed after having to sign it over and over again. JMO

I am not a doctor. I am an attorney but I will be changing my last name on my license. Unfortunately, I have to file a motion in order to change my name on my license - it's not hard just more of an annoyance :( But my other friends keeped their maiden names for their profession.

I'm keeping my maiden name professionally...its just too much of a hassle to get it changed I think. Maybe later if I have more time...

My mom changed her last name legally but kept her last name professionally because of some medical license stuff but she isn't a dr she's a nurse practitioner.

I am not a doctor but since I have practiced law for 5 years I opted not to change my name. Name recognition means a lot in a career so the longer you have practiced the more benefit I think you have in keeping your maiden name - but again - this is a personal choice.

I think it depends what department you are in. I am in the 2nd one. It looks like a form.

Re: Any Drs. out there? keep last name
I am a doctor and I am keeping my maiden name. I have been established for 13 years in practice, I would not want patients to get confused if they get a referral to me, look me up in the phone book, or online. My FH understands. I thought about hyphenating, but it's just too long. If you are just getting started out in your career as a Dr, I would say you could change your name, but if you are already established, like in my case, it is somewhat of a hassle IMO.

Re: Any Drs. out there? keep last name
I'll be just starting my PhD program after the wedding. But, since I have some publications in my name I am going to make my maiden name, my middle name legally, not just on marriage license. I currently have no middle name, and then I'll sign with all three: First Middle Last name.

Re: Any Drs. out there? keep last name
since you hyphenated your marriage license, what name do you use as a doctor? do you introduce yourself as Dr. maiden name? dr. maiden - husbands name?
just curious cuz im in a similar situation. I want to go by my maiden name for my profession, but we decided to hyphenate on the marriage license.
