Any ex smokers?

I am quitting smoking!
I have a stop smoking aid, I requested from my DR.
Any tips for when the cravings come?

My husband use to smoke ... way before me. But he quit using hypnosis and only has an occasional cigarette when he is drinking at a bar! He said it's not like you are hypnotized and in a trance - it's just at a level when your subconcious and concsious are equal. He said he didn't crave a cigarette after - but he still does have the occasional cigarette when he is out with his friends (all smokers) having a few beers.
Maybe this could be an option for you - if quitting 'cold turkey' doesn't pan out!

I'm an ex smoker and I have to be honest it is tough. I keep telling myself it's worth it! I quit a little over a year ago - using the patch. I still get cravings, but they are much less intense. It's really different for everybody - I really enjoyed smoking and smoked heavily, so it seems to have been harder for me than other people. There are tons of resources - message boards like this - for quitting smoking that REALLY helped me!

Which aid are you using to quit? Honestly I think it was just that I was ready and I sought out A LOT of support on my own. I think the patch helped somewhat, but mostly psychological. How long have you smoked? Are you a heavy or light smoker? Those will be factors too for you as you quit.

In the beginning when I got cravings I used everything - mints, gum, lollipops. Than after about 2 weeks I had to use pretzels, carrot sticks & celery sticks! I drank A LOT of water......would just start guzzling when I wanted a drag! And I'd search out my fellow quitters on line! Shortly after I got engaged and was thinking about my wedding day, I found myself trying to figure out when and where I could smoke throughout the day! I am so happy I don't have to deal with that anymore!!

i smoke enough. too much.
i have the nicotrol inhaler. it is a very tiny percentage of nicotine and it looks like a cigarette so you have something 'in your hands' and you puff on it like a cigarette.

ohhh - I quit this past April after smoking for about 11 yrs!

I used the patch and it worked great, but I still crave one now and again, especially when I'm at a bar with my friends. The more you expose yourself to those situations and not smoke, the stronger you become.

I've noticed how much I'm craving one, as the wedding day gets closer......!

Good luck to you - just keep in mind why you're doing it, and that it IS possible - you just have to work at it

forgot to add that it took me to quit smoking, before I actually LOST 15 lbs! I was finally able to work out at the gym for over an hour with cardio, now that I'm a non-smoker - could never have done that before.

Going to the gym keeps me in check too for the future.

I stopped smoking in 1989. My neighbor who is like a cousin to me said to me if i stop smoking he was going tobuy me a hot fudge sundae. And guess what??? I never got the sundae... but I got something better backstage tickets to Meatloaf he was the drummer to meatloaf but he recently left them and now is in queen. and i tell ya it worked! i have not had another cigarette since
than. my uncle died of cancer who was his fatherand i miss my uncle very much.

how i stopped i forgot to write this is also i chewed on ice cream sticks and just chewed gum.
