Any Feedback on Cassarino Studios and/or Starlight Express DJ
FH and I are impressed with what we have seen from both and are considering booking them. I have an appt with Cassarino this weekend. Just looking for feedback, positive and negative. Thank you.
Also, please tell me (for Cassarino) who you had for photographer and who you had for videographer and how much you paid and what did you get (FM if you choose to be private).
And for Starlight Express, which MC/DJ did you have? How much did you pay and what didi you get?
A big TIA!!

Re: Any Feedback on Cassarino Studios and/or Starlight Express DJ
My sister used both, and all tastes are different, btut I'll be using neither for my wedding.
The DJ really pissed me off, and my BIL as well. He ignored the 'play' and 'do not play' lists, the MC was seriously the most annoying human being on the face of the planet. He kept trying to get people to do conga lines and stuff that they CLEARLY didn't want to do, and he wouldn't take no for an answer, he just kept bugging us, and I found it SO annoying. We wanted t dance the tarantella and they played it while the venetian carts were on the dance floor. I totally hated them. They basically ignored everything my sister and BIL told them. They did have people up and dancing though..but sometimes it was to a point where people were afraid to ge tup and dnace, b/c they didn't know if the MC was going to try to involve them in something or single them out. He really made me, as MOH feel embarassed, b/c he kept harassing me and the other BM's...and it really wasn't in a subtle way, it was like, enough is e freaking nough.
Cassarino- Her photogrpaher was Nick (nikolai?) and he ahd an asssitant, I don't know what the viedeogrpaher's name is. Nick put everyone totally at ease and ahve everyone smiling and laughing. He did a great job and got a lot of great shots.
My only complaints are :
there were some mistakes on the proofs, and I wasn't SO impressed for the price....(but I'm SO picky about photography)..
They didn't take all of the pics they were asked to take. They took family pcitures of my dad's side of the family, but not my mom's, they also seemed really weary of using a lot of negatives to get the shots just right...
My sister is STILL waiting for her album, a year and a half later... It's partially her fault, partially theirs..once they have your $$, they kind of put yu on the back burner, at least that's been my sister's experience with them. I also feel like they weren't agressive enough. I don't know if my sister would have ahd to add $$ to get photojurnalism, but they took NONE, and even some moments should ahve been captured regardless, IMO....Like when my BIL gave my sister a becklace and was putting it on her, I ran for my camera...and wen I developed the pictures, the photographer was in the background just watching everything..I mean, you'd think he'd want to get a picture of a moment like that.
Their photgraphy was really very good, and my complaints about the photos themselves are only nitpicky, but there are other factors as well. Good luck with your choices..
OH Also, with cassarino, they were trying to make my sister ay in full before she got the album. I told her no way should you ever pay in full for something before you have it in your hands, b/c if you don't get it, or if it's messed up in any way, you have no pull if they have your money, and I think with most vendors, you don't pay until you get the finished product... They also offered her all kinds of stuff AFTER the wedding when she got her proofs back that added a LOT to the price. I'm not saying they don't have every right to do that and that they're forcing you to buy anything, but there isn't a lot included in the package if there are still hundreds of dollars of things to add after the fact.

I used to work at one of the halls that they were house vendors at and I don't know much about Cassarino, but Starlight express always got rave reviews and brides would come in requesting them. The partys I worked that they dj'd were unbelievable. They always had people dancing and everyone seemed to be having a good time but I honestly believe it's the MC not the company you should look into. The staff at these big dj companys must change all the time.

I am using Starlight Express. We saw them at SIL's wedding and they were great. We didn't have the experience that Mary had at all...we looked at Cassarino but weren't impressed.
Marymoon...do you remember the name of the DJ?

I have no idea what the name of the DJ was. I could ask my sister, but I doubt she'll remember. It was possible we just had like, their worst MC EVER that night..lol

What are you paying for Starlight Express, and what all are you getting? We want the basics, no giveaways, smoke-machines, or anything like that. Which MC/DJs are you having? We picked two at the showcase Wed night @ Jericho Terrace.

We are using Starlight Express DJs. I saw them at a wedding a few years ago and then last year at an anniversary party at JT. They were amazing. We are using the exact dj and mc we saw at the anniversary party. I think the basic package price was $1750 and its for a DJ, and MC for 4 hours. We added some stuff like the percussion player, give aways, etc.

I see that you are looking for DJ's I booked with Above and Beyond and find that Rob is really great. They have great equipment (Dennon) which my FH said is the best and they have a crazy amount of music. If you want there # is 631-567-3333.

We are using Starlight Express. One of our friends works for a lot of DJ compaines on LI and he recommended them before any other. He also said that Body Rock would be his second choice and I think they are great so I am sure Starlight Express will be just as great.
We are getting a DJ & MC for 4 hours, the upgraded lights, and a cocktail hour piano player/singer for $2900

We're using Starlight Express as well. Paul, one of the owners, is our MC and we haven't picked our DJ yet. I've never heard any complaints about them, so I was very confident in booking them especially after reading ACE2445's review on The Knot. We have them from 6:30-12:30 (including ceremony and cocktail hour) and it's $1795.
