There was a camp thread on BHB, and I was wondering if there's anyone else here who knows the REAL lyrics to 'American pie'

Re: Any fellow CTY nevermores?
I was at Towson (YS program) in '93
and Hopkins in '96
I was supposed to go again , but I could never afford it! I also always dreamed of being an RA, but that never happenned either. (I didn't want to be away from FH for 8 weeks..I'm a dork)..
But seriously, CTY has been one of the most memorable and meaningful experience of my life...so unique, and I made some lifelong frineds...I seriously wish I could go back. It was just always such an amazing group of people...we had our own litter world..and I LOVE to run into fellow CTYers

LOL I still have my mix tape if you feel like getting nostalgic! RAing was great--I can't believe I got paid for playing! And I met some of my best friends there.

Can I guess what's on the mix tape? - Instanbul - TMBG - Rock Lobster - B-52's - American Pie - At least one REM song
CTY (Or as FH likes to call it 'Nerd camp' ) was such a great experience. Exposure to so many different people really helped shape who I am today.

Re: Any fellow CTY nevermores?
I always refer to it as 'nerd camp' Those were the days
great mix..and depending on where you were, there was also forever young..
And for us it was 'it's the end of the world as we know it'
and even a little bit of 'shiny happy people'
I had my first slow dance at CTY
And my first little boyfriend

Re: Any fellow CTY nevermores?
Blister in the SUn wasn't a big song at my site until I made it one. LOL. I would walk around ALL summer singing it, because I LOVED that song..and since there were 33 Jennifers and MAtt's in my session, people called me 'blister in the sun girl'...LOL

My parents never let me go to camp - they always said 'we have a pool, and the beach is 2 minutes away. WHATTYA NEEDA CAMP FOR?!?'
Well, except for drum major leadership camp one summer, 'cause the school paid for it because I was the queen band dork.

CTY is alot of thing. they have a lot fo different programs..but I'll focus on the coolest which was the camp.
You would take the SAT in 7th grade to qualify for the program..it's Center for Talented Youth btw (but on trps we'd telle veryone 'Can't Tell You')....
And it's a 3 week program (you can slo go for 2 sessions-6 weeks) where you go and take basically a college course in a chosen subject for 3 weeks and there are activites after class, and then you have study hall and night. it's basically work hard, play hard. But it's SO much more than anything I can describe. it just brought together the most awesome bunch of people and created a culture all it's own. There are songs, plays, poems and movies that are all 'CTY'...stuff that we all watched or sang, or read or listened to...
it was SUCH a blast. And a lot of people went year after year and then became RA's (you lived in college dorms)..i became a lfietime thing. I went to two summer sessions and participated in some other programs too.. I would have loves to go for more summer sessions, but even with'scholarships' it was too much money...and my birthday is at the beginning of the year, so I had less time that I could go.

ahh, thanks Jenn!!! I remeber getting that letter after the SATs in 7th grade, but I'm the oldest of 3, and Dad had just opened a business, so there was prob. no money around that time.

Re: Any fellow CTY nevermores?
Yeah I think it was about $3000 per session and my parents did have that kind of money. For my first session I got a full scholarship (I think it was need based) where they even paid for my travel expenses and books...thereafter, they paid about half..but my parents just couldn;t swing it...but they made it up to me by sending me to Barcelona in 11th grade with my frineds for spring break, although that was actually a lot cheaper than CTY
