Re: ANY GLEN ISLAND BRIDES?
Hi!! I'm so happy to have another GI bride I'm getting married there July 30, 2005. We chose Arcadia for flowers. Both Arcadia and Diana Gould were overpriced, but Arcadia threw in more things for free and seemed to listen better to what I wanted. I got sample centerpieces from both of them before I signed a contract. Of course, I spoke with the florist 3 weeks ago to ask about pricing on some things and he has yet to call me back. So, I'm hoping I won't regret that choice.
For photography, we went with Anthony Vazquez from Perceptions. It was important to us to have someone familiar with GI because there are so many 'hidden' places to take pictures, like that castle by the water, that a first time GI photographer might not know about.
We haven't book video yet, but we're really leaning toward Video Magic Studios in NJ. Their work is just amazing.
Are you having your ceremony there as well? Good luck!

jENN, tHANKS FOR ALL THE INFO. IS ANTHONY VASQUEZ MORE PHOTO JOURNALISTIC? BECAUSE THAT IS THE LOOK I WANT. WHO ARE DEALING WITH AT THE GLEN ISLAND? I AM MEETING WITH BOTH ARCADIA AND DIANA GOULD ON MONDAY. I AM GETTING MARRIED AT MY CHURCH AND THE RECEPTION IS GOING TO BE AT THE GLEN ISLAND. ARE YOU HAVING COCKTAIL HOUR MUSIC?

Re: ANY GLEN ISLAND BRIDES?
Anthony is photojournalistic, but he's not artsy for art's sake like some of the photojournalist's I've seen. We also hired a 2nd traditional photographer as well through his company, Perceptions
We're just having our DJ, Starlight Express , do the cocktail hour music. I've found that the cocktail hour musicians are often a waste because no one can really hear them. I'm still debating whether to hire live musicians for the ceremony though--it's in the round room at Glen Island.
At GI, we've been dealing with Rocco and at Arcadia, we're using Chris. I though the DG showroom was nicer and I liked how they had 'Glen Island' tables so you can see how your arrangements would look--though, warning: I think they're tables are too big actually. So it looks like you need more flowers than you do. I was up at GI a few weeks ago and the tables were much smaller than the one at DG. I was told that the width of the table remains the same even if you're using a 10, 12, or 14 person table. But I'm going to call Rocco tomorrow to verify. Just figured I'd give you the heads-up.

Thanks for the head up. how was Anthony Vasquez's prices? i am looking for photojournalistic but not all photojournlaisitic either. like you said , i defiantely want traditional posed pictures. I am dealing with Rocco as well. I was at a wedding there this past June and there were alot of things i wasnt to crazy about. i thought the food was good but the service was OK. It could of definately been bette. Did you finalize your menu? what are you doing for entrees?

Oh, you'll definitely have to tell me what needs to be worked on there because I've never gone to a wedding there. We didn't finalize our menu, but we had our tasting. We're definitely doing the baked brie appetizer and I think we're doing the filet mignon, chicken mignon, and some kind of salmon.
Here's my question for you: I keep hearing that they do outdoor ceremonies, but Rocco never mentioned it and I assumed that this was before their renovations. Also, I keep hearing that there's a 3rd ballroom on the 1st floor. Too much mystery for me
Anthony's prices vary a lot. There are some more affordable packages starting in the $2K range, but we're paying about $6,000 including tax. For that, we're getting 900 proofs, the 2nd photographer, a bunch of 5x7s and 8x10s, an 11x14, our album with 60 pics, and 3 parent albums with 24 pics. Also, we're getting 75 watercolor thank you cards and an engagement shoot. He's young which I liked and so personable.

Re: ANY GLEN ISLAND BRIDES?
Jen, I am getting married in the smaller room at the glen island with all the windows. I have no idea where a third room would be? As far as having the ceremony outdoors, i saw a tent outside and i figured that is where it would be. It is really nice though. I am having a very italian wedding. so my cocktail hour is going to be all the italian stations. my main courses include, chicken( not sure which one yet), salmon, and filet mignon and lobster. as far as the service, i though the cocktail servers looked miserable. you get all these passed around hors 'dovers but i only saw 2 different kinds. i asked for a malibu baybreeze during cocktail hour and they didnt have malibu at the bar and i asked again during the reception and again after i saw Rocco and finally (truely 3 hours later) they brought it to me. the Server at my table did not introduce herself, didnt ask how we wanted our meal cooked, and was no where to found when i needed a drink. and i told Rocco all of this. i dont know if this stuff sounds petty but you are paying so much money to have at this place and stuff like that definately shouldnt happen. As far as, Anthony Vasquez, he sounds perfect, i am definately going to check him out. the price isnt that bad compared to prices ive been getting and you get alot of proofs.

Re: ANY GLEN ISLAND BRIDES?
hi- i am getting married there this november and we have been working with carlos! we decided to use Arcadia and had our samples already done and are very happy with them so far! we are having our reception in the room downstairs. there is def. not a 3rd room b/c i grew in new rochelle and i am very familair w/ the building so don't worry about a hidden room! so far i have heard nothing but great things about the place except starting the cocktail hour a late but giving champagne to the guests to hold them over!! it is a great facility and worth every penny from the food to the location! Good luck and have fun planning! - Lisa

Do you mean you're having your reception in the smaller room or you're having the ceremony there? I didn't see a ballroom with windows--the Rose Room has windows if you open the doors to where the CH is though. The geography of that place has me going out of my mind
I don't think your complaints are petty at all. We're paying so much money to have a wedding there and it should be fantastic. I'm hoping that since we're having a smallish wedding, the staff won't be too overworked and can maintain a fake smile. I'm definitely going to find out exactly what liquors they have there as well.
Thanks!

There at least used to be a ballroom downstairs I think because I saw it on a Wild Rose video along with an outdoor ceremony. There's that back entrance, so maybe it is/was there? I'm just so confused
