I think it would be kind of hard to do that when he's the county excecutive for Nassau County.

No, never but seriously? Do you think this will put the cops at an unnecessary risk or do you think it will improve the quality of life and the situation along N. Ocean Avenue? (as well as other areas of Long Island).

I felt bad - the other day I was going down Wheeler and the Sheriff was evicting a house full of illegals. They were just standing there as their stuff got removed from the house. They were probably subletting from someone and didn't even know it was going to happen. Where can you go at such short notice? It kind of gave me a better perspective of the situation but I'm still not happy about my taxes being raised due to the influx of enrollment in my school district or 100's of men standing on streetcorners looking for jobs. It's reminds me of a third world country.

Leaders in the gay rights movement, (Specifically the HRC) are involved in heavy debate about how to move the movement forward. the HRC leaders believe that the gay marriage issue should be put ona back burner and that they should instead fight for single rights like social security benefits, visitiation rights, one at a time, because they're more likely to garner support. For some reason the word 'marriage' is what freaks people out, so they want to work on getting single rights on at a time. Also, while they have the legal preparation in place to fight for gay marriage they feel the political climate is not right.


At first glance it sounds like giving in, but it's sound political strategy. The US just isn't ready to grant marriage rights to homosexuals, but if you ask the same person who says 'marriage is between a man and awoman' that persom might also say 'of course he has the right to visit his aprtner in the hospital' so it's all about presentation and timing.
