I'm considering Douglaston Manor for a September 2007 wedding. They recently completed renovations in March 2006- I was curious if anyone has been to a party there since? Or if you have any comments about the food or service in general.
We were looking at their larger room, which is T shaped- I'm not sure if I should be concerned about it being awkward.
Also, I was told that if they book more than one party, they keep start times 2 hours apart- has any one been to a wedding there when there's another party going on? I was worried about music traveling into the main room from the 'terrace' room.
After almost 6 years of dating....I'm so excited to be newly engaged, but already feeling the frustration of making decisions!!
THANKS!!!

Re: Any info on Douglaston Manor??
Congrat on the engagement!!!!
Me and my FH checked out the Douglaston Manor and we were not every impressed. The inside of the building looked really nice but the outside was dumpy. I've been to other affairs there and the food is not all that great. Alos, the sales person we met with was soooo pushy. One nice thing was they have a gazeebo in the back which is a really pretty place for pics.
Here are a couple of other places that are reasonable that we looked at:
The Westbury Manor (which we booked) Fox Hollow Inn Roslyn Calrmont (sp??) Hotel (a close 2nd) Woodbury Country Club
If you go to the planning section on this website they also list some other places.
Good luck! And don't let the planning consume you.

Re: Any info on Douglaston Manor??
Thanks for the reply....how long ago did you go to Douglaston? I went there 2 weeks ago, and the outdoor area seemed pretty nice, but I also noticed they are still doing the smaller finishing touches from their major renovation. So maybe when you saw it they were in the middle of things.... We're looking into Sept/Oct 2007, so hopefully it will be all done by then!! That is if we book with them.
Good luck with your upcoming wedding!!

Re: Any info on Douglaston Manor??
I was at a wedding there about 3 years ago...I wasn't that impressed either. There were 2 weddings at the same time and while we were outside for the cocktail hour the guests at the other wedding and the bride was outside, it was akward. In addition, while the speaches were going on you could here the music in the hall next to us. I heard the place has been re-done, but when I was there it was sort of dumpy....

Re: Any info on Douglaston Manor??
We looked there and I wasn't too impressed. At the time they were still doing renovations which made me nervous and I didn't like how there could be another party so close in the next room like that. The outside area seemed kinda small to me for the cocktail hour. The ballroom is very pretty though, I liked the balcony above it, and there are nice views by the gazebo in the back. I don't know anything about the food but it didn't seem like they give very much for the price. And I too thought the guy who showed us around was trying too hard and didn't care about our concerns. I'd suggest checking out a bunch of places before making your decision... there are tons of places in Queens & Nassau that you might like. Good luck and congrats on your engagement!
