Any Jewish ladies, can you help me out?

Any Jewish ladies, can you help me out?

FH & I bought this adorable angel for FH's Grandma for Hanukkah...however, now we are second guessing if this is appropriate.

Are angels part of the Jewish tradition? Would this be an offensive gift to give?

There are angels in the Torah, so I don't see why it's not appropriate. It's a nice gesture.

Changing topics for a sec (sorry!)...I don't know how I thought of this, but when I was in first grade, my elementary school had a holiday gifts day where the kids can buy cheap gifts for their families. I saved up like 50 cents and bought my mom's boyfriend a plastic sign that said 'SHALOM.' The man was Roman Catholic ...he hung it on his door proudly for as long as I knew him!

It's the thought that counts :).

I am jewish and i think of angels as a catholic thing.

FH's grandma is not jewish and she wears a Chai (hebrew letter for 18 and is considered to be a lucky number) b/c her friend bought it for her.

definitely not Jewish.
imaging of ppl is VERY unjewish, even if it is an angel
I am not sure how will she react tho, she might like it, I am just saying its not something u give for Hanukah

try something else, any gift: scarf, pretty plates, anything as long as its not a 'person'

I think of the same thing. My mom is Jewish and my dad is Catholic and I was always told by my mom, her family, and Hebrew School that angels a Catholic thing. I like them though and think they are pretty so it really depends on the person.

I agree with most of what is being said. I come from a traditional conservative background and went to Jewish day school my whole life and so I personally wouldn't give an angel to someone Jewish.

BUT it really depends on the person, she may think it is a nice and sweet gift. But if you are doubting it then maybe give the angel to someone else who isn't Jewish and by GMa a different gift? Maybe a Star of David necklace or keychain??

My very Jewish grandma gave me an angel recently but it is not the norm...I'm not even sure she knew it was actually an angel or not....

Unless you know that angels are something she likes, I'd probably stay away. You don't need to get her something 'Jewish' but something else like a picture frame (she can put your a picture from your wedding in it next year!) or a scarf or something is a probably a safer bet.
