I'm wearing the Kenneth Pool Aria dress and just went in for my first fitting. I went to Kiki, someone highly recommended by Saks Fifth Avenue where I purchased the gown. It's on the upper east side between 5th and Madison and had upper east side prices. Can you believe that despite only having to get the hem a few buttons and the bustle, done that they're charging me 650 for 2 appointments? Ugh. she did give me outstanding service though and given she used to work with Kenneth Pool himself when they first started out working for Vera Wang, and given, she's considered the best in her business, I totally trust her to do the work. Plus she fed my ego and made me feel like a princess while there. But is she worth the 650? ? I feel guilty about even thinking of changing my mind and not leaving the dress in her hands after all the pinning she already did. What would you do?
Also, I'm a street clothes size 4 and was amazed that the sz 4 KP dress fit so perfectly. Aren't we all supposed to go up a few sizes in wedding gowns or did all of you KP brides find a similar sizing situation?

I am wearing the Kenneth Pool Romantic Dress.. My alterations are $590...However, I need a lot more done to my dress because of my body shape and the fitted nature of the dress. I have a body similar to Kim Kardashian.... A tiny waist and big hips..I have a size 26 waist and 41 inch hips!! I wear a size 6 street clothes to fit over my hips and then I have to have some things altered because whatever I can fit over my hips is HUGE on my waist. I think no matter what it's going to be expensive!

crashing.. i wore kenneth pool opulence, also purchased at the wedding salon of manhasset. my seamstress was julie, and she was phenomenal. very patient, and didn't mind that i spent 20 minutes just prancing around in the dress at my final fitting. the alterations were perfect and the dress fit like a glove.

Don't you hate how the wedding business tries to take advantage of us brides? It's like they know we're desperate to have perfection and figure they can scam their way into quadrupling their service prices. Suddenly a hem alteration which should cost 40 at most is 100 and a routine bustle costs 500. It's really ridiculous but we're at their mercy. Once you spend a thousand or more on a dress, all the other costs are relative so they rationalize...so we rationalize.
As an event planner by trade, I was prepared for all the other markups during the wedding planning phase. But being inexperienced in altering a wedding gown, I was completely shocked. This price tag was a hard one to justify for me.
What wedding cost was most hard to swallow for you other brides out there?
