I just have a question about adding FH last name but still using my maiden name. I am a Psychologist but only want to use my maiden name professionally but legally will be 'Kelly Maiden Married'
How will this affect me practicing under Kelly Maiden only - is that unethical since it differs from my legal/married name?
Do I have to change my School Psychology certification & my NYS License since it is all in my maiden name.
Real simple: I want to use my maiden name professionally & my married name personally and I do not want to HYPHENATE. Any ways on how to do this legally & ethically?
THANKS SO MUCH!

I'm a lawyer, but I don't think this is a lawyer question. You probably have to talk to the agencies or boards that grant your licenses as a psychologist and see what they say.

Re: Any lawyers out there?
for payroll purposes you will have to have the name on your social security card.. but if you have a joint account w/ your fh it could cause a problem if yousing 2 different names.. i would check w/ your hr dept.

You should FM my sister, jeanla4c. She made her name Jean maiden FH's, but she used just her maiden name when in the professional world, since she's published.

Just think in term of diplomas. Nobody changes them. I would only change what has a validity day.
Some friends of mine have legally changed their name but keep working under a given name (maiden name) just because they are know professionaly under their maiden name.

Re: Any lawyers out there?
I'm a lawyer. I kept my maiden name. For lawyers, I was told that the name that we use under the state registry of attorneys must match our legal name and must match the name we practice under. If I had changed my name, I would have contacted the bar. I guess I also would have had to change the name of my firm. In your case, with your maiden name still being part of your name, you should call (who? not sure) and ask about that.
