I was just wondering if anybody has had a wedding there or is planning one. Is this a good place? Looking for the scoop...They also reccomend Fantasia(the house band) any comments?

Re: Any Miller Place Inn Brides out there?
I can only tell you that I went to a showcase there and it was quite lovely. I have heard they have renovated since I went. They are reasonable price and the food was good. It was just too far for me and the room was a bit too small for me. It could only fit 190-200 people and I had more on my list. Check it out and do a search on the boards, I don't think you will be dissapointed.

Yes, me!! This August. Can't wait. My FH actually fell in love with place when we saw it. They did recently do some renovations, great improvements. I've been to a few showcases and tastings and the food was delicious. The cocktail hour room may be a bit too small if you plan on having it in the winter with more than 150-160 people, but in the summer, it can extend outside to accomodate more people. We had originally booked our wedding for November 29th when all the holiday decorations would be up and it was really, really pretty. The prices were great compared to the other locations I had checked out. (I'm getting a mini-viennese station for free) which was also a contributing factor to booking there. Good luck with your decision.

My FIL's live right up the road from Miller Place Inn and was one of our original choices for our own hall (we went to with John Anthony's because it was on the water - one of our biggest criteria). We loved it so much that we were thisclose to booking it - we even gave them a $100 deposit to hold our original date. The catering manager, Rory, is a class act. If you haven't called them do so....it's a great place.

Re: Any Miller Place Inn Brides out there?
I had always dreamed of having my wedding at the Miller Place Inn. Even though it was far from where I live, I just loved it there. I had attended a wedding there in 1999 which was just wonderful. Well this past year when it came my turn to finally book my reception site, Miller Place Inn was the first place I was going to look into. Just at that time, they had been taken over by new management and were in the middle of renovating the entire place. We meet with sales to discuss their price and items to be thrown in. We went no joke 2 yrs prior to our wedding date (a sunday afternoon 2:30pm in Jan). The sales man told us he would try to work with us and do the best price for us, being that we were off season for weddings. He stated that our date was wide open and would give us 8 wks to decide if we wanted to book, inorder to lock into that price. We didn't want to book anything until we tasted the food and saw the final project of their construction. At the time we were there, all the walls were torn down, bar being reassembled, ect... This sales man said he would get back to us that same day if he did do better with the price. Well, he never called back. So we called him the naxt day. He at that time, said 'oh I didn't call, because I couldn't do better. We (being Miller Place Inn) don't have to work with the price, because we are going to book either way'. Then he proceeds to say 'and the date you wanted Dec 3, 2004 is booked. A couple came in later that day and booked it' The fact that we were not flexable with the date, only wanted that date...we were like, well guess this isn't going to work. But over all, I was extremely disappointed in their new management and the rudeness of the sales man we were working with. I mean come on, as if some really came in that same day to book our exact date for 2 yrs in advance... RIGHT! I just couldnt be bothered with the hasselment of the management team there and didn't book them. I was dissappointed and know the only reason is 'New Management'.... If the old owners were still there, I know there would have been no issues. The Miller Place Inn use to be a very unique place, tucked away in Miller Place and it sold it self...through weddings and private parties. They didn't have to do the advertising that they do now after they were bought by this new owner. I do believe that the food is great, they do an awesome ice cream social, and the Xmas decorations are beautiful, but I would be weary of their management....SNEAKY

I agree with decbride04. The management is sneaky. I went to book my wedding their had the check all ready with only one request i wanted to just take a quick look at the kitchen and the banquet manager would not let me check it out. I walked right out she was extremely rude about it. sneaky!!!!
also make sure you get a list of what liquer they carry!!! they didn't carry alot of the stuff my fh likes to drink and would not accomodate us with it for our night(like other places which said they will supply us with any liquer requests)

Re: Any Miller Place Inn Brides out there?
DecBride, almost the same thing happened to me. I went to see it while it was under renovation so obviously I wasn't going to sign anything until I saw the finished product. So, my fiance and I made an appointment to come back. In the meantime, the banquet manager actually called me and told me that he could do better with the price. So, my fiance and I went back after the place was done. Well, it turned out that he said that he couldn't do any better on the price and the dates were selling out and that they wouldn't have a problem selling out other dates. Basically, he lied to me just to get me there and couldn't back it up. I was so mad that I said 'ok, thank you', got up and left. Right after that I went to see the Watermill for the first time, fell in love with it, and booked it.
All of that being said, the renovations did turn out nice, the food was ok, and the atmosphere is very cozy at the MPI. However, that thing with the banquet manager really turned me off.

Re: Any Miller Place Inn Brides out there?
I'm getting married there next June in the afternoon. When we booked they we still under the old management but they told us it was changing and showed us what they were going to do to the ballroom. We delt w/ Luanne and we liked her and we've heard nothing but good so we booked. Now after hearing what some of these other brides went through I'm a little nervous. But hopefully everything will work out.

Re: Any Miller Place Inn Brides out there?
Shannon... the reason the banquent manager 'Leanne' didn't let you into the kitchen is because the place is absolutely gross! It has slippery tile floors(always slimy with food and spills) that we would all fall on at least once a day. What did they do to prevent this? Pour salt on the floor! They are not the most sanitary either! ( I won't go there) I was bridal attendant there for 2 years, I worked for the old management, into the new management, and I would not recommend it to anyone. I saw what goes on there behind the scenes, and I have one word 'discusting!' Anyone with major concerns FM me...

I went to a wedding there and it was nice. They did rush everyone out because they were the day wedding, but other than that it was fine. And on the point of unsanitary conditions, anyone who has ever worked in a restaurant knows that kitchen floors are slippery in ALL restaurants. Don't go scaring people who have already booked. The place has been around for many, many years (for a reason). JMO

Re: Any Miller Place Inn Brides out there?
I am not trying to 'scare' people who have booked..what I said was mild...It could have been much more detailed, trust me! The kitchen floor comment was putting it pretty mildly. This board is here for all of us to speak our minds freely...that being said, I want to PREVENT future brides from being mislead by the facility and the people who run it. I am only trying to help, not scare. For those brides who have booked,..all I can tell you is if you have concerns DEMAND answers. DEMAND to see the kitchen, etc....Don't settle!!! Expect the best ...this is YOUR day, don't take chances. Go with your gut, If you feel the caterer is up to parr, and trustworthy, great...but If you have instincts something is fishy your most likely right. Good Luck Girls!
