Any Nurses out there, please READ
All Nurses need to come together at this time and lobby against a recent proposed amended regulations to the Dept. of Labor's Fair for Labor Standards Act. They want to ENABLE hundreds of thousands of white-collar employees, including NURSES to 'lose their eligibility for OVERTIME PAY'... We can't stand for this and must put up a fight. You and your co-workers can all help by writing into the President to help put a STOP to this. Forward this letter, Cut and Paste the letter provided at the bottom, make copies for your fellow nurses at work and encourage all to spread the word and mail in your letter. You can do this by sending the letter provided below directly to the White House or Email to the President of USA.
Dear Mr. President,
I am contacting you to voice my extreme opposition to the proposed amended regulations to the Department of Labor's Fair Labor Standards Act. These regulations will enable hundreds of thousands of white-collar employees, including nurses, to lose their eligibility for overtime pay. In this environment of both current and impending nursing shortages, taking away the ability for a direct care nurse to obtain additional compensation when working over 40 hours a week or 8 hours a day will adversely affect the work place and quality of care given to patients.
Simultaneously this will give healthcare employers the ability to mandate the nurse to stay beyond a normally scheduled shift despite family commitments, physical status or state of mind. As human beings and healthcare professionals, we deserve the right to choose whether we can stay or not and the right to fair compensation for our dedication.
With healthcare at the forefront of concerns among voters, Republican and Democrat, the indirect and direct impacts from this legislation on the quality of patient care should be thoroughly examined prior to passage into law.
Sincerely,
