Am I the only military bride on this foroum???if there are more what are you doing besides the arch of sabers to incorporate the military into your wedding if anything?
What we did was DH and some groomen wore Air Force Mess Dress, the civilian guys wore regular black tuxes.
We did an Arch of Swords outside of St. Kilian's, and I got wacked and welcomed to the Air Force.
Our bridal party and guests left the church to 'God Bless America' and the 'Air Force Hym'
The guys naturally wore no flowers, since they wear medals.
We cut our wedding cake with Dh's Saber
We had Dh's rank on our invites, we wrote out the guys formal titles on the invite
For our prayer of the faithful we included members of the military, etc.
We had a custom caketopper designed to match my dress and dh's uniform, medals.. etc.
You should be able to find plenty of Marines stuff! I have seen garters with dog tags on it, and people who gave out suncatchers for what branch they serve as favors. If I can find the sites I will post them later.
And the biggest part of incorporating the military into our wedding was having them make up postpone it a month prior to the date, and then having three weeks to reschedule! They definetly starting myself and both of our families with the motto of 'plan in pencil'
TY!!! I am cutting the cake with the swords and also have ordered a Marine corp topper, I have not seen the dog tag garters but now i am going to search. I like the idea about the music and have picked 'proud to be an american' as our last dance song tentatively....... I am so proud of him for all his accomplishments in his service and feel it is important to incorporate them. I want it to be special, I've seen USMC grooms cakes and want to do that too..... thanks for your ideas muahs
My advice to you would be.... Make sure every single one of your vendors knows your DH is active duty. Our's did because many asked since he wasen't with me for planning and I was always taking digital pictures to send him but it helped us out alot with discounts as well as we had no problems when we had to postpone. Also Dawn from CruiseONE was great to us and she offerred us honeymoon insurance which we were glad we took and got most of our money back if you plan on booking your honeymoon in advance. And if you plan on booking it last minute which is what we ended up doing... check out interliner. com they have special disounts for all inclusives resorts and cruises for active duty.
And my last piece of advice is be very careful when booking your photographer make sure they understand the shadows that your DH's hat may cause in pictures. We didn't have that problem because dh wasen't required to wear one with the uniform he wore for the wedding, but I have seen other people's pictures and the grooms face can sometimes have shadows if your photographer doesn't think. Also, make note of different things that are important to you like for us the wedding was the last time we saw many of our family members since we will be pcsing for the third time this march.
Where are you moving to after the wedding? We moved to NAS Pensacola, then NAS Corpus Christi, and are soon heading to Little Rock AFB and this summer we are moving to hopefully Alaska or Germany.
Well my Marine is ending his service a few months before the wedding, he will be active reserve for four years after we are married but not active duty/full time. So no I am not moving, and I do visit but have not joined any spouse web sites. I wish that we could afford to get married this year I'd love to live on base for a few years before settling into a home, but he wants to wait till he's all done so thats our plans.
