was thinking just a weekend, either upstate or out east. We've never done the LI wineries or really gone upstate.

need ideas, places to stay, restaurants, etc. please!

alternatively i can take him to dinner at a steakhouse in the city, but i've done that every year and i'm running out of steakhouses.

No problem girly! Since we're getting married out there, I have become the 'unofficial' expert of the north fork. My parents went to the vineyards up in the hudson valley (near rhinebeck and the Culinary Institute) and I heard it's very nice as well but unfortunately, I don't have as much 411 on the area!!!

Shelter Island is awesome. It's so cool to drive you car onto a ferry and it takes you over to island... We stayed at the Pridwin which was OK, not the most luxrious but they were nice and it included breakfast and dinner.

Do the wine tour!! By the time it was over, we were so nicely buzzed and I literally could not stop shopping at each vineyard. By the time the wine tour was over, we had like 12 bottles of wine, 4 jars of jam and a dozen ears of corn.... I tend to shop when I'm drinking....

If you're thinking of the a beach weekend. Long Beach Island is awesome. We are there every weekend because FH's family owns a home here.

he's not a big beach person like i am... i love the beach. so i was thinking vineyards might be fun. oh but now that you mention it my friend also mentioned ICE so it might be fun to do that and maybe take a cooking class together?? something different for us.

If you're interested in classes. Artisanal has great wine and cheese classes.

Also, you can do a weekend upstate and stay in Rhinebeck and tour the Culinary Institute of America. They have several restaurants at the CIA. My parents and I would always stay at the Beekman Arms

this couple i know went away to this spa retreat in connecticut and raved about it, if you want i can find out the info for you

are you looking for just really relaxed and laid back? bc theres also mohegan sun and foxwoods, foxwoods just opened up an MGM there, and i know theres a vineyard not too far from there bc my MOH went to a vineyard and then to foxwoods right after.

sort of but not too relaxed. I don't really want to do mohegan or foxwoods just the two of us; we went to the Borgata last summer with my sister and BIL and had a blast so we'll probably plan something like that. maybe we'll check them out then though - i've never been to either one.

i like the idea of wineries, maybe spa and a really nice dinner. I'm kind of leaning toward the hudson valley since i'm not sure if we're going to go for one or two nights and the traffic out east might be a nightmare in the summer.

My FH has always talked about Millbrook Vineyards in Hudson Valley. I've never gotten to go myself, but my BM and her husband have gone and loved it. She also highly recommended Mohonk in New Paltz…it looks beautiful. My boss recently recommended the Culinary Institute, as well. Cindy, seems to have covered out east…I’m not that familiar.

love Mohonk!! i went on a winter hike up there and it's gorgeous! i've been wanting to stay there but i talked it up to my co-worker and he took his girlfriend there and said it was nice but the rooms were old and there were no TVs not that i need TV. BUT there is this other place up there that i'm dying to stay at and check out. I wanted to get married there but 1. it was way too $$$$ and 2. DH just laughed at me and was like 'who the eff do we know in westchester??'

Sigh....
