Any thoughts/opinions on Mini-Vans??

DH and I are buying a new car next month. That much we know. We just don't know WHAT we're buying!!! We can't afford the SUV's I want and he's *really* pushing the mini-van!!

We plan (hope) to have a 2nd child within 2 years of having this one, so it makes sense in terms of the spaciousness. I just think that overall they're unattractive cars! Safety and comfort (I'm 5'11') are most important.

What do you love/hate about them??? This is becoming a bigger job than finding our house was!!

sorry, I hate them.

I know they're practical, but I will never own one. Have you looked at the spifty wagons they have out these days? Subaru, Audi, Volvo - they all have nice ones.

I'd go that route (or SUV) before the mini-van.

Personally, I will never drive a mini-van, but that's just me!
We just got a used Honda CRV...a small but affordable SUV-type thingy. My hubby is 6 feet tall and has plenty of room. It's quite spacious! Good luck!

I think the MPV has a sporty look, for minivans that is. If anyone is 'cute' that would be the one !

and I keep seeing on the news 'Are SUV's really safe' It scares me to keep hearing that
YEs they are sporty and nicer looking (and gas hogs! ) But minivans have much higher ratings in terms of safety.

Good luck in whatever you choose !
I wont be crossing this bridge for a while yet !

One of my former boss was in an accident a few years back w/an 18-wheeler big rig. She walked away with nary a scratch and the police attributed her life to the car she was driving - a mini-van!

They said if she was driving an SUV, she would have been killed b/c the SUV would have flipped - that is my biggest fear w/SUV's...they have a very high center of gravity, causing them to be risks for toppling/rolling in accidents.

The news has warning to this effect all the time. I'd rather buy a wagon and be safer.

Thanks everyone. So much to think about! I think minivans have come a long way from when they first hit the market and some do look less 'refrigerator-ish' than others!

I need to keep doing my homework, I guess. Taking a test drive wouldn't hurt, either.

Argh!

I'm not a mini-van fan...

but I can understand your concern....

heres a list of:
The five safest cars of all time:

Buick LeSabre (model year 2000)
Honda Civic (model year 2001)
Lincoln LS (model year 2001)
Volkswagen Passat (model years 2000 and 2001)
Volvo S80 (model year 2001)

from msn....i think the VW passat has a staionwagon option...
