What is your question about it though?

FH and I have a 52 inch Sony flat screen we bought from Amazon. It came in perfect condition.

Re: Any TV experts out there?

I used to sell TV's and home theater at Best buy and Circuit for 7 years.

I reccomend that you get him Sharp Aquos 46' LCD.

1. Plasma is ok, but does have a 'shelf life'. It can NOT be recharded as people think. The other thing is the glass on the front is very reflective. If you have a room with a lot of light plasma will NOT be the best TV

2. LCD can be hung on the wall.

3. They are about 6-8' deep.

4. I have 2 Sharp Aquos 46' High def and I love them

5. There is a term 1080i , AND 720p or 1080p. (its a resolution, basically) The new TV's are 1080i and 1080p. Right now TV does not broadcast is 1080p. If you can, its still better to get a 1080i/1080p TV. (A tv is purchased as i AND p) The technology will catch up. But right now you get a LITTLE it of a better picture, but not enough to REALLY notice a difference.

6. All tv's now come with whats called HDMI (high def mutimedia interface) Its a better way to connect a better DVD player, stereo etc. Instaed of having the old audio/vide or S video they now have these high end plugs. A TV will STILL have the old audio vide, but now they come with a lot of the HDMI.

FM or post on this thread with any questions.

This is what I can think of off the top of my head

I'm thinking about getting this46' samsung from best buy. It's this tv Samsung - 46' Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9230744&type=product&id=1218063831168

This is a really big investment for me to make on my own and I really want to make sure it's the right one. Best buy is willing to match another stores price so it would be $1,500 but I would have to purchase the 4 year insurance with it for $299. All in all the tv will be about $2k with taxes. it's a good TV has all the top things in it but I want some opinions on it since we have never owned a flat screen and the info I got was all from the Best Buy workers.

Re: Any TV experts out there?

just a word about brand.

When it comes to LCD Sharp is well kown to have some of THE best technology.

Sony is GREAT, but you pay more for the name a lot of the time. Sony knows they make a good product and wil charge for their name.

Samsung and Toshiba make great LCD TV's.

Stay away from the generic brands...Westinghouse, Dynex. They are not great. Not bad, but not great.

My FH has been researching TV's and right now the nest LCD on the market is the samsung 120hz 9 series with the LCD backlight. You can go down to the 7 or 8 series but based on him I would go with that.

He plans on buying it after the wedding and once he sees whats left in his bank account, LOL!!!

I have a Sharp Aquos 46' in 1080p and it has a gorgeous picture and the sound is excellent. I also have a Samsung 1080p 52' beautiful picture and when you play blueray dvd's on it...it's AMAZING!!!

We had the 46' before and it was great and never had any problems with it. Its a beautiful tv. When I get home, I'll ask FH more about it because he knows more than I do on this. The 1080p makes it look so crisp and clear!

If you can get a good deal on Sony products, I'd highly recommend them. Their BEST products are their TVs and it's a little more for a good reason. I work at Sony Pictures Television and have seen many HAPPY people buying sony tvs and won't ever look back.

Such a generous gift - congrats on your wedding this month!

Re: Any TV experts out there?

We have a samsung 40' 6 series in the LR that FH absolutely loves... he HAD to have that tv... thinks samsung is the best...

I personally like our Sony Aquos 32' that we have in the bedroom better.. but they are more expensive than similar size tv's for whatever reason

ETA: Both are 1080p... Yes, they do have TV's under 40' that are 1080... some dont know this bc it isnt advertised really and most claim you only need 720 on the smaller ones bc you wont even notice the difference... but once again, this was FH's request LOL

Re: Any TV experts out there?

Now about extended warranties:

I used to sell them. I KNOW What the stores do to MAKE you buy them.

For this TV you just dont need it. What I would tell you is if they are giving you a good deal on the TV and warranty, take it.

Then, go to a different BB and RETURN the warranty the next day.

The warranty MUST be entered on its own line. it is a separate purchase. So you CAN return it,. They give you a 'package' deal. You thik 'wow, I got the warranty built in'.

Nope, they take the price off the TV and charge you for the warranty. Or they just charge you for the warranty outright.

Be careful that when you go to return the warranty you almost certainly WILL get a hard time about it. They will try to talk you out of returning it. Just say sorry, I dont want it.

The warranty is great on some specific items, but the chances of you needing it on a TV like that are slim.

We have a 52 inch Samsung LCD and we love it! Amazon has something called 'white glove' service where they come and install everything...might be worth looking into!
