my bf has always wanted to learn how to play, he has a basic guitar so he can kinda teach himself but i was hoping to by him a guitar book along with some mets tix for our anniversary..any book recommendations??

I dont know of any good books..but I think its a great idea! I have two guitars and can barely play either!

My mother has a guitar that she has not touched in years... I so wanted to learn how to play it... just never got around to it.
If you can go to a place that sells sheet music, they are sure to have some sort of book along the lines you are looking for.

I played guitar a lot when I was younger... I really stopped back in '98. I pick it up from time to time.. here's my advice.
Go to Sam Ash.. and look at the different books they have for guitar instruction.
I recommend Mel Bay.. it teaches how to read music as well as form major and minor chords.. barre chords, etc.
But what is even better.. is to leanr how to play with a firend. If your FH has a friend who plays... it makes the book more fun.
I would pay for lessons only if he is VERY serious about this..
