Booking a block of rooms at a hotel for out of towners? How much of a discount do you usually get? What should I know before I look into this?

Re: Anybody else...
I dont know if theres a standard percentage off...I blocked rooms at the garden City hotel which is where we me and Fh are staying as well as most of our bridal party because they want to continue the party after the reception. I dont have too many out of towners so i only am blocking 10 rooms at time. i got enough cards to fill all my invites and rooms will be added as needed. to give you an idea of what i am getting
normally double bed rooms are $255..i have them for 4209 king rooms are 265+ and i have them for $229

I am. Haven't done it yet.. but I called one hotel about it. They told me you can block 10 rooms at a time without leaving a deposit. Any more than that and you have to pay a certain percentage of the room charge. That's all I know.

I booked a block of 25 rooms. Normally $379 a night - blocked for $139 a night. We didn't have to pay anything, we just had to guarantee half the rooms, which is no problem for us since the majority of my guests are OOT.
ETA: You should go check out the guest rooms first and make sure they're not going to charge you for little things like giving out gift bags.

I actually don't think you get a discount. I put a block on hotel rooms when I booked my RH. The rooms I blocked were for 149.00 a night. When I went online to check if I could still get rooms they had the same rooms available for 112.00 a night. I just think the block is good to just hold the rooms. I don't think you get all that much of a discount though.

it depends on the hotel. I just check mine online before I responded and the price with the block is $240 less! Also, I have stayed at hotels for weddings many times and I can't tell you how many times I've heard people say that they missed the cut-off date for the block and had to pay so much more for their room.

Re: Anybody else...
def ask if they have minimums on the number of nights... we blocked rooms in riverhead (our reception is in westhampton beach) at the holiday inn and the hilton garden inn. the hilton requires a 2 night minimum- which is fine for us b/c we have family coming in from IL, CO and WA. also, we aren't getting much of a discount!

I used the Garden City Hotel as well... DH and I stayed there the wedding night. I stayed there the night before the wedding along with my parents, the bridal party and some OOT and OOS guests.
They are a nice hotel and you may be able to get a good discount if you talk to them. I know JJC has her prices quoted but I think ours was actually about $10.00 or so cheaper.
Best advice check with a couple places... and those that aren't willing to work with you or call you back skip and move on. And definately if you have never been there or stayed there ask to see the rooms

Do they have a bar or hostess room?

Re: Anybody else...
We're going to block rooms at East Wind only because they have a limited number of rooms. They're discount is only 10%. The only advice I have is to get everything in writing because places (like mine) have restrictions on if the room isn't reserved and they aren't able to sell it by a certain date and I reserved it i'm responsible for it.
