My good friend from Philly has a beautiful voice and we've asked her to cantor our wedding (we're doing the full mass)

If you did somethign similar, did you still use the musicians/organists from the church, or did you make other musical arrangements?

I am doing this....

I am also havign a guest organist, random I knwo... but a good friend of mine happens to be an organist so there you go! :)

Usually, you need to speak with the musicians at your church. They depend on the money they get from weddings and funerals...HOWEVER, usually whatever you pay the church in a donation, a piece of that money should be going to the musicians anyway. So in essence, they're making money without having to perform at your Mass. Even though you don't need the cantor, you're going to need the organist, and he/she will probably still do it without a problem, they don't care who's singing. I've sung in several weddings where I was the guest cantor, but the organist was the organist at that church. So, I guess what I am saying is you soulhd be fine with this... jsut make sure you communicate to the church musicians that you don't need the cantor, but you do need the organist. GOOD LUCK!

My friend and cousin cantored at our ceremony, my sister played flute and BIL played trumpet...we used the church organist. She is WONDERFUl and all we had to do was arrange for a rehearsal with her. Most of these people are OOT so they came in on Thursday night for music rehearsal, Friday for rehearsal with everyone, Sat was wedding...it worked out terrifically and was such a special touch, talk to your church, I think most are fine with it.
