Re: Anybody Not doing favors?

I have never heard of skipping favors. I went to a wedding where the couple did not give favors but had set up a little paper on everyone's plates stating that there were no favors becaues a donation was made in our name to a cancer research place. To make up for no favors, they gave sparkers and chocolate (bc it was on the 4th of july) and they had a picture booth.

Personally i would never do that. But the only thing ive seen is donations done in lieu of a gift. Which is just as nice if not nicer!

no. we'd like to do cd's but they might turn out to be too expensive for us. In that case, we'll do a donation and m&m's. But I wouldn't skip favors completely. I think a small favor is thoughtful.

I think Favors are nice...especially when everyone thows them somewhere where they dont even use them...except ofcourse ur family maybe...they will put it somewhere where it reminds them of ur wedding..but i think that donations are great...you are doing something to help others!!!!!

Re: Anybody Not doing favors?

Honestly, until I joined LIW I never knew that people even did favors. Part of me sort of thinks that being invited to be part of our special day, and getting free liqour and delicious food and a fun party with dancing should be a pretty decent 'favor.' If I do anything, it might be a donation. But since I donate to certain charities every year, it wouldn't really be different than usual.... part of me just wants to ignore it entirely. I feel that if people are talking about my lack of favors, then I probably made a mistake and shouldn't have invited them to the wedding in the first place. I am paying for everything and I know that a few hundred here and there add up fast, so I am trying to keep it very basic.

I was at a wedding on the 4th of July and there weren't any favors. I noticed because I was scoping everything out but I wasn't sure whether the guests would care. They did! The girl next to me (wife to one of FH'S friends) said very snottily 'How can there not be any favors?' So people seem to notice and care!

I have never went to a wedding where there was no favors. But, maybe there was a donation that was done at that wedding you went to?

I agree with you. I've been battling the idea of favors for months but everyday the wedding costs add up and I wonder if a few hundred dollars in cookies or candy are really gonna change the importance of my day.

Re: Anybody Not doing favors?

My best friend got married last year and she didn't do any favors (for financial reasons) and I honestly didn't even notice. I am the person who notices every little thing at weddings so this shows how unimportant the favor was to me. The only reason I even thought about it was because during the planning of my wedding, I asked her for ideas and what she did as favors and she said didn't have them. That is when I realized I didn't even notice. MY FH and I are going to do something small, but I don't think a favor is necessary.

I've never been to a wedding without some kind of favor (including donations).

I'm doing a donation card which I will attach to gourmet chocolates and biscottis. I want people to have a little something to leave with, and I want them to know how grateful we are that they shared our special day with us.

I think favors are cute. I am not doing them bc I want to save money and I served weddings for many many years and sooo many people forget them or throw them out

Re: Anybody Not doing favors?

OMG! I agree ... poeple do care ... I have heard plenty of those comments myself ... I know this is horrible but I went to a wedding once where there were no favors but they had made a donation and this older lady (like late 40s - early 50s) and she was really old school ... so anyway she went to the bathroom and took cash out of the evenople .. in her defense I dont think she read the paper about the donation so I think she thought there were no favors and she mostly likely didnt read english so wouldnt have understood what the paper said. But yeah, people take this stuff seriously! lol

I would never not do a favor. IMO that's a 'thank you' to your guests. There have been weddings that I've been to and the favors are ehh, but honestly something in my eyes is better than nothing. Even if it's a picture frame or candle..everyone can use those!
