Is Anyone Else Not Getting their Hair and Makeup done professionally? I just posted that I wasn't and then saw how many people are getting them done!! Should I use a professional instead?
PS - My sister is going to help me - she is awesome at doing hair even though she is not a professional....
Help!!!

I'm getting it done, but I kinda wished I had an aunt or someone in the bag who could do it for me....if you know people who are great, than that's great! Maybe do a trial run with your sister just to make sure she can do it a way you like and it will hold up! You can always go to a salon that tends to be less expensive than having someone come to you

It totally is up to you...if your sister can do your hair thats awesome..with makeup though my photographer said the pics looks SO much better with professional makeup.

My parents own a salon so my mom is doing my hair. I am getting my makeup professionally done, too!

if your sister can do it and you're happy with the way that she does it, then why do you want to spend more money to get it done by someone else?
Trust your instincts...you don't have to get one just because others are

Im getting mine done because I cant do it myself as nice and dont have anyone who can. If I the opportunity not to I wouldnt.... Its whatever your comfortable with

i got my hair done by the girl who cuts/dyes my hair at her salon the morning of, and my cousin/MOH did my makeup, she's not a professional.
I'm so glad I went that route b/c i saved a TON of money and DH kept saying that he was happy that I looked like myself. He did not like the hair or makeup trials i had done professionally.
Don't worry about what everyone else does, LIW is not the end all be all of weddings. Weddings are not a competition, and there is no reason to upset yourself over what anyone else is doing.
You're going to be STUNNING no matter what.
OH, as far as pictures go... most of my friends who live off the Island, didn't get their makeup done professionally and their photos are still amazing. Think about all the people who get married every day, how many of them do you think really spend that kind of money? It's a NY/LI thing... if you didn't have LIW to talk to about it, would you have given it a second thought?

I struggled over this for a while. I really didn't want to spend the money but I also thought about the fact that I spent a lot of money for a photographer so I figured I just better spend it and not worry about it.
totally a personal choice. Just do a trial with your sister before hand and take pictures to make sure its the look you are going for.

I agree, not everyone is doing it professionally. My sisters is doing my hair and make up because I helped with theirs. So save the money, for someing else. It your day only you know what is best.

Honestly, if you know people who can do it for you, save your money. You don't have to hire professionals. It's a perk, but if I knew someone who did hair, I would have used them instead

my hair I am getting done even though my mom is a professional I didnt want to stress her on the day of and I know exactly what I wanted as for the makeup my sister and I will be doing it- we both do make-up nicely I did not like my trial and didnt want to take the chance of having someone else messing it up- i think if your sis does hair nice and it will give you a piece of mind go for it!

In all honesty...some people don't require a lot of makeup and other people are just better doing their own then having someone else do it...So maybe you are one of those people. I personally am not so I have to hire someone...I don't know the first thing about hair!
