I make my spaghetti sauce in it. Other than that i haven't used it. I plan on making mom's pot roast some day. I bought a small slow cooker cookbook (at checkout stand at Walmart)... i'll post some recipes when i get home. Some really good lookin stuff in there!!!

Go to the Betty Crocker website - www.bettycrocker.com and just do a search for 'slow cooker' - there are tons of recipes.

I got a crockpot at my shower, which was Aug. 2001, that I'm still driving around with in my trunk because I'm trying to find out who sells it so I can return it!!

Chippatrid, how did you make buffalo wings in the crockpot? Don't they come out soggy?

I don't want to be a downer, but I know quite a few firefighters and they told me many of the home fires they respond to are started by crock pots. They said they are not safe to leave on and leave the house. They can get really hot. I took it off my registry because now I'm too scared to use it.

The one I registered for has an automatic shut off when the meal is done.
I believe you but I wonder how it can start a fire?
The pot is made of such hard stoneware

I usually use it on the weekends when im home anyway. I'm so paranoid with stuff like that (especially since there was a really bad fire across the street from me recently). Not that it was caused by a crockpot, but im just fire paranoid!!

I honestly don't know how it starts fires. My friend Kevin was just so adamant that I don't use one, he really scared me. I'm sure that if you use it properly, they are fine. The fires are probably caused by the type of people who need to be told that you can't use the hairdryer in the shower to save time.

I have a 6-qt crock pot and I love it!! I only use it on teh weekends though when I am around.... I am also paranoid about fires. But I do think they'd be okay to leave on while your out. Isn't that the point?

I have a crock pot cook book by Rival that has some great recipes. I love the chicken recipes, they chicken comes out so tender you don't even need a knife to cut it.

Thanks for the tips ladies!! I'm going to go check out those sites.

My cousin is a FF and refuses to let his wife own a crockpot. Honestly, the counter underneath it does get quite hot, but I really don't think it would cause a fire. Supposedly your TV (even when off) drains more electricity than the crockpot
