I am having a fit about the benefits... i just called to see what I am covered for b/c when I read the explaintion of benefits there was nothing for dpendent's vision coverage, but for DH he gets 2 visits & one free pair of glasses a year.
well, I just called the union & I GET NONE....not only that but I get no dental either & DH gets dental W T F

Mine is. I'm pretty sure I'm covered the same as him. I know I get dental and eye exams, but I'm not sure if glasses would be covered (don't need them)

what union? DH is in Local 25(electrician). I havent switched anything over yet but I thought when I did go through his papers I got vision benefits too. Hhhmm now you have me thinking - I should double check!

Dh is in NOITU...not a local.....he might be working for another shop soon that is with UAW (United Auto Workers) it is supposed to be a much better union.

Mine is. But they get phemonental benefits and they cover the wives and up to 4 children at no additional cost. Same coverage. But my DH is very active in the union and negiotated their contracts... (he is a firefighter)
Yes, CWA. ANd they keep changing their rules, one day things were covered, next day they weren't! :(
I am stresing b/c DH is the shop steward 7 HE can't even get thigns done....they are going into negotiations next month & this is a major issue with the guys & gals in the shop. Since the last K negotiation l 5 years ago, most of htem have gotten married & are having kids, so it is a really hot topic now. I am afraid that if they 'up' the benefits, they will not get the raises they deserve. (but i really REALLY need vision & dental!)
What's even worse is that DH just got off the phone with his rep & about 25% of the Dr's in the plan are dropping out.

My DH is in the UTU...
We havent run into a problem with his insurance yet so far being a married couple (but that's a good thing).. ... My DH had reconstructive knee surgery/physical therapy about a year ago and everything went smoothly.. *knock on wood*.. so no complaints here.

Mine is but I have kept my own medical coverage for now. Mine is better to be honest, but I pay for mine he doesn't pay for his, so I really have to decide soon. My district will give me 5k a year to switch to DH's, so I have to see how many doctors I will lose.
Sorry that DH's coverage is giving you all the coverage, can you get it, if you pay into it?

mine is but i do get vision and dental. his insurance is better then the one im offered at work so i switched.

Mine is! Local 1-2 ConEdison
I get the same coverage he gets Medical, Dental, Prescriptions & Vision (new glasses every 2 years). He pays an extra $15 a paycheck (weekly) to have me covered. I was paying $70 every 2 weeks for my ins & I had higher copays & no vision.

I'm actually in a union (UAW, oddly enough), and I really think it all depends on the contract. It may have been a trade-off for something else (like salary increases). Do you have a copy of the contract?

both of us are in unions...my medical/dental coverage is better so after the wedding we will be going on mine

FH is in the refinishers union. Not sure of the local # though. We think my insurance is better and will probably both go under the plan once we're married

He is getting a copy of the former contract soon, as they are about to go into negotiations. He was chatting with people at work fter I called him & one guy said that they get off 2 extra holidays, their birthday & one extra personal day per year instead of equal coverage...... it sounds shady to me.

Mine is in Local 94- Operating Engineers
I am pretty sure I get the same benefits as he would. In fact, I don't have dental through my job so I use his.
But when I asked to switch over to his completely I thought I remembered them asking for a letter stating my employer did not offer medical insurance, which they do, so I did not switch. Is that possible?

mine is and i am covered - but we pay for it...its still chepaer than me adding him on my coverage but we did it for now so its easier if and when i change jobs!!

They were... which is why DH is now the shop steward. No one is happy with the way the negotiations went last time.
