Re: anyne ever have a baby shower? go to one?

Ive had 2 baby showers and have been to many.

Heres some ideas..

Diaper cake
One shower had a stuffed animal (safari themed) on each table and all were given to mom for babys room at the end.
Another shower had a big pot of mums as a centerpiece and they glued on googly eyes and a felt tongue and it looked like a sheepdog LOL

I cried when I read a thank you from the baby for coming to mommys shower.

If you are willing to buy a nice hamper and clothes you can.... hang all outfits on a clothes line and put in the hamper. When she opens the hamper and pulls out the clothes line you can stretch it across the room - very cute!

I bought a signature frame for my friends baby shower and people all wrote a message to them or baby. Then they put babys pic in middle (for the shower I used and Anne Geddes pic.)

We played the price is right game.
String around the belly game.
Drink from baby bottle race..
Blindfold taste test baby food.
change the diaper race..

Oh and one of my favorites.. you need a timer (like an egg timer?)

When she begins opening presents you start the timer. When the timer goes off - whoevers present she is opening at the time will get a small gift from the host.

Re: anyne ever have a baby shower? go to one?

I have had 2 baby showers and have been to soooo many!

I loved that my first baby shower (the big one) was Jack and Jill. It meant a lot that Rob and all of my guy friends were involved. It was also nice that they served alcohol since I was probably the only one who didn't/couldn't drink at the time. I remember it because it was soo much fun - much more a PARTY than a baby shower.

I loved the baby sex/weight pool.. I also loved that they built a library for my future baby. Everyone gave their favorite childrens book and it was soo much fun. We had some great choices and we STILL read them to my sons.

Another great touch was the set of handmade books that they gave me. My sister sent a page from a scrapbook with every invite and people put pictures, advice, well wishes on them. My sister bound it and gave it to me. She also made an 'ABC book' . She put things that meant a lot to me as the letters... for example 'A is for Adirondack Chair... that Mommy can't get out of at 7 months pregnant' with a picture of me trying to work my way out of her lawn chair the month before. 'B is for Belly... and Mommy has quite an impressive one right now' with a pic of my HUGE belly. The 3rd book in the set that she made was pictures of Rob and I through the years, with empty spaces for our future children. The inscription reads 'From Sister to Sister - Blood to Blood - Heart to Heart - Mother to Mother'. It means soo much because my sister died only 7 months after my son was born.

I also loved that I was given some 'Mommy things' - prenatal massage certificates and a day at the Spa... it seems like when you are pregnant everyone is all focused on the baby. It was nice to get some things for ME.

A Baby Shower Poem
by Tessie Soto

I'm really glad that you could come
to help surprise my mother.
Sit down, relax, enjoy yourselves
and chat with one another.

Sorry I can't be with you
to share in Mommy's shower.
but you see I'm very busy
cause I'm growing more each hour.

Though I'm not here to thank you
for the special gift you brought
My family and I are grateful...
We appreciate the thought.

I'll be arriving shortly
I'm as happy as can be.
So after I've been home awhile
Please come visit me!

I thres my sister a Jack and Jill Baby shower for 200 people this past summer!!! ( I told her this was the first and last shower I was throwing her )

I made a collage of baby pictures of her and the babys father that was framed and ig now hung in the nursery.

WE had a clothes that was strung on the back pation where people could hang baby clothes they bought (we informed people of this by word of mouth) It looked soooo Cute!

We had a book where people could write them a piece of advice for the new parents. If you do this make sure you have someone actually walk around with it or you won't get much in it.

Instead of cards ask guests to bring and sign baby books (preferably board books because they last longer).

My girlfriend had an amazing shower.

Her twin sister asked that all guests donate $5 toward 'FIGHT FOR LIFE'. Saving your baby's cord blood can be quite expensive so this was a way to help them save towards that. At the end of the evening, most people donated more than $5 each and it nearly covered the entire cost.

It's a very practical, life saving gift that will last a lifetime.

This is a really good idea and a great thing for new parents to do. I have read about it and it can save lives in the future!!!!

I used that a couple years ago for my MOH! She had a boy so I wrapped that in a scroll with blue ribbon. I bought Hershey bars from costco and wrapped then in blue paper that said Vanessa's Baby Shower and the date of the shower. Sweet, cheap and simple.

Do a game.

Buy a small prize and ask a bunch of multiple choice questions regarding the mom-to-be/dad to the guests . Of course, some of the answers should be totally off and super funny! It's very interactive and someone gets a gift.

Thats a great thing! I saved my babys cord blood and it was approx $2,000 to start and like $100 / year or something.. I dont remember - its automatic debit. CBR

Re: anyne ever have a baby shower? go to one?

this is probably really gross.... but i saw it on a tv show!

at the baby shower.... the host took a bunch of diapers, and put different melted chocolate candies in them that looked like poop (gross, i know. they used snickers, butterfinger, reeses, etc)....

and the women had to guess the kind of candy it was by smelling and/or tasting it! it looked really cute though (albeit veryyyyy gross)

Re: anyne ever have a baby shower? go to one?

for my sisters baby shower, one of the gifts I gave her was a hamper filled with baby clothes attached with clothes pins to a rope to simulate a clothesline.....I found some shirts with funny sayings and some seasonal outfits (she was due in November so Christmas & Thanksgiving outfits were a cute touch). It looked really cool when everyone held up the clothesline and all the guests were reading the shirts.

Also, on each table I put a picture frame with a pic of my sister as a baby and my BIL as a baby.....I found frames with moons & stars on them to go with the baby's nursery theme.....so cute!!!
