I was just asked to be a godmother...can anyone tell me what I should do for the christening?
Am i responsible for getting any part of their outfit (jewelry, etc.). Do i give just a gift? How much?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I have two god children. I was always told that the godmother buys the christening dress, and the godfather buys the cross.

I bought my nephew his christening outfit..bought him white gold cross with necklace and also gave 500.00 to put in his account that my brother and sister inlaw opened for him.
He is my first nepheww so I kinda went overboard!!!!!!!!

My most recent godson (I've the other one since I was 17, so I really don't remember the particulars) is my nephew. I bought his outfit and I bought him a gold signet ring with his initials engraved on it. His godfather bought him a cross.

Re: Anyone a Godparent
I am the Godmother to my friends little girl. They used a dress that had been in the family for years so I didn't have to but that. I am Catholic and she is Presbyterian so I didn't know if things were done differently in her church. I asked what I had to do, and she told me nothing but show up. I thought that was a little strange! So I just gave a very large savings bond.

I am godmother to my niece. They had a christening outfit in the family so I bought her a cross and a cross to hang in her bedroom (little girl cross). We also gave her a generous savings bond.

I have two godson's.
My first I gave him the outfit and a baby-sized gold cross. (Can't remember if I gave him money too.)
My second I gave him a few hundred dollars and a baby/boy cross to hang on his stroller.

Re: Anyone a Godparent
I am godmother to my two nieces (sisters). I bought the christening gown for the first child and as they used the same outfit for the second one, I bought a diamond cross for her.
I didn't give any money, but I am their only aunt and they are my only nieces/nephews so I spoil them rotten.

Re: Anyone a Godparent
I have 2 godchildren. I have not bought the outfit for either because one wore the same as his dad and the other my MIL bought it. So in both cases I bought the cross.
For DHs godchildren, we bought our nephew an id bracelet, clothes and maybe money (I dont remember) and our niece a tanzanite cross.

I'm a Godmother for both my Niece & Nephew. I always give money...luckily their Grandmother loves to sew...so...she made both of their outfits.

Re: Anyone a Godparent
My sister and I are both god-mother's to our nephew....but we didn't buy anything. Being that we are Jewish, and at the bris, it wasn't appropriate for a cross
What can I say...my family is a little messed up. My SIL is not Jewish, so she wanted god-parents...even though they are raising the kids Jewish.

Re: Anyone a Godparent
My son's godparents split his outfit for the baptism. They also each got him a piece of jewelry and gave a monetary gift at the reception.
I bought the shoes the socks the bonnet and gave a gift. But this is my sisters first child and she is the first of us to have a child so I spoil the heck out of this little girl.
I think a gift is sufficient. You should ask though because usually the god parents get the cross (or in my family anyhow) and you don't wnat to get it if the god daddy is getting it. Or maybe you two want to go in on it and get a really nice one that the baby can wear later in life.
