Anyone a tax accountant?

Anyone a tax accountant?

I got married in July and was told to continue to file separately and claim single 0 on my taxes since I was single for part of the year. It would give me the most money back this year.

Since I will be married for the entire of 2003 do I have to switch to married exemptions or can I keep it still single and file separately. We don't own anything (a house, etc.) and probably won't until next year.

I'm just confused as to what I need to do to make sure I don't get creamed on taxes next year. Thanks to anyone who can help!

there was a thread on this recently in the newlywed section. I think it was determined that you need to file married regardless of your single exemption status. If you were married on Dec 31, 2002 - your tax status is considered married for the year. You can file married separately or joint, but you can't file single.

I'll see if I can find the thread...hang on...

two threads
#1 on filing taxes

#2 on taxes
