I am debating doing this but FH is sort of against it. What reasons did you have for doing it? I wanted to make a smaller time gap inbetween the ceremony and CH so I was thinking about having it start 1/2 hour sooner. FH says its a waste of $$ and everyone will get full off of the CH food and then no one eats dinner. There would also still be a time gap inbetween just an hour and a half instead of 2 hours

how much time is in between the end of your ceremony and the beginning of the cocktail hour?

right now there is about a 2 hour gap inbetween and it is approx. 15 -20 min drive from the church to the hall ( even though obviously not everyone goes to the ceremony)

I added a half hour to my reception but not to the CH (since I had a viennese hr - I wanted more reception time) - I think personally an hour is long enough and many halls will even open 10-15 minutes earlier anyway if guests arrive earlier than they should because of a long gap.

No my hall will be open and have champ. and strawberries ready so im not really worried about that..

If people know that there is a lag between ceremony and CH they will just plan accordingly. I definitely wouldn't extend the cocktail hour - I had a bunch of people even skip it!

We are doing the same thing but we are going to have coffe, cookies, etc. They call it a pre-cocktail hour.

if you have a 2 hour lag then adding a 1/2 hour really won't make a difference. I vote no..

I wouldn't be in favor of doing this. But, hey its your choice. I probably wouldn't spend the money, but that's juts me. I'd rather use the $ some where else!

Thought about it as well. Never been to your reception site. I would say if the grounds and views are beautiful and you get extra daylight (and people can roam outside for part of the ch) then extending the CH might be a good idea. Otherwise, I would agree with some of the others - if you're going to extend then extend the Reception. Besides, you've got announcements, appetizer, dinner, cake, maybe a viennese or something extra - so the reception flies by. On a separate note: Went to Punta Cana about a year ago on vacation and it was awesome. Beaches were amazing (like white sugar sand, not a single rock, clear water). I will say we took a tour but can't remember the name but it was with a well known company there (have cheesy white zebra kind of trucks) - great excursion and safe. Interesting to see the 'locals' and also took us to a private beach for a couple hours. And I mean private - our group of 15-20 were the only ones on it.

Just my opinion but I would only add 1/2 hr at the end of the CH or at the end of the reception. People always arrive late to the CH (at least in my Family - so in my case it would be big waste ) plus I would want more time for dancing, not eating!! Just me though!! As you know, I'm considering adding on 1/2 hr -- 1 hour but at the end of the reception.

You guys are right its not really worth it so we wont do it! At the most if the party is still going and there is still alot of people on the dance floor I will add an extra 1/2 hour to the end of the night

I would have to agree and say not to add the extra 1/2 hr to CH... We have about a 2 & a 1/2 hr gap as well between the ceremony & CH... people will just plan with that in mind...

I would not add the extra 1/2 to ch. Like you said guests can arrive a little early for champagne and strawberries. Alot of people don't get dressed up to go to the church, so those 2 hours will come in handy for them to get ready. If you have alot of OOT, maybe someone can have them back at their house between. My aunt and uncle are doing this for us which is very nice. If not, they can always go back to the hotel.
