It looks like my FH is going to be dropped from his insurance company. He's scheduled to have surgery in January (nothing serious, but needs to be done), and now it looks like he can't. He brought up jokingly...with maybe a touch of seriousness...running off to town hall to get married so he could benefit from my insurance. Just curious if anyone has done this. Not sure how I feel about it.

Re: Anyone already married?
I have read posts on here about girls who got 'married' before the wedding.
I want to say ZKat or something, I could be totally wrong.
I would try doing a search!

Re: Anyone already married?
We got married at city hall on August 17, 2007. Our 'wedding' will be in 2008. It was the best day ever and we are SO happy we did it. So much less stress these days and we love being married.....hope that helps

Re: Anyone already married?
My FH and I seriously thought about getting legally married before our wedding for health insurance reasons. He's currently paying an insane amount for his but it would only be only a couple of extra dollars a month to add him to mine. We even talked about all the things that we could get for the wedding if we had that extra cash. The only thing that stopped was that our mothers would have KILLED us. Our fathers would have both patted us on the back for making a smart financial decision. Now the wedding is close enough that we'll just wait. Do what's right for you and your FH.

I thought my parents would flip, but they seemed understanding when I mentioned it. Obviously it's not exactly how I pictured it, but we're going to get married anyway in 4 months. Nothing is set in stone yet. It's still just discussion. I told FH to exhaust all the options before I consider it further.

Re: Anyone already married?
Our friends got married at city hall prior to their 'wedding' for insurance coverage as well. It's not unheard of.

We didn't get married but we did domestic partnership, FH works for the city and I was able to be added to his insurance with the domestic partnership paperwork. Don't know if your insurance would take this but its worth a try!!!

There is a domestic partnership option with my insurance, but we don't live together, so unfortunately we can't do it...even if I moved in now, I think I we would've needed to live together for atleast 6 months prior to now.

Re: Anyone already married?
My FH is legally my domestic partner for insurance reasons. If you have the option to do that, go for it. We had to provide our lease signed by both, photo ID with the same address and a utility bill with both our names (L.I.P.A).

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I would prefer to be legally married on our actual wedding day. If there are no other options, and it's a choice of getting legally married or him not having the surgery, I would definitely get married. I wouldn't tell anyone else but our parents, and still go on with our 'real' wedding in April. We'll see... Hopefully it will all work out. If not, I could be married by next week!

Re: Anyone already married?
we were legally married 8-20-07. But im sorry the only thing that that is is a piece of paper, bcuz you cant consider a 3 minute convo with a woman at 8:30am in the morning a wedding or anything similiar to that. we didnt even have wedding bands. the only reason why we did it is so he can get his green card. 1/2 the ppl dont even know about it. so he already has my last name :) .. yes he took my last name
he just changed his license yesterday actuallly and hes like this to me,,,, dont you think this is interesting, if we're standing with your dad and we're introduced they're goin to think that im the son and you're the daughter in law. im like heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ---- watch yourself. lol :)
