The last few weddings I've been to people ditched the ceremony and showed up for reception. I can understand if they couldn't make it for whatever reason but so many of the guests told me that they think the ceremony is boring. The ceremony is the most important part! That's why I'm having the ceremony at the RH. I want people to be there when we actually get married. It annoys me so much!

I totally agree, but this is the new trend. Unless the ceremony is RIGHT before the reception, a lot of ppl won't come. I'd be so sad to see a half empty church

Isn't the ceremony the whole purpose of the wedding??? I would hate it if people didn't come to mine---its at the RH also

It is a growing trend but realistically for religous reasons (food at RH isn't glatt kosher) I have a few people that want to do the opposite- stay for the ceremony and then leave before the reception.. go figure
But yes some think the ceremony is boring or whatnot but thats why we're having it at the RH- 30 minute tops for the ceremony.

Re: Anyone annoyed by this?
It is true but in my mind all the IMPORTANT people in our lives will be at the ceremony. We are getting married on a Friday night, I know there will be people who can't make the church and that is okay. My family is huge they could fill the church by themselves

hm that seems kind of rude... like people are only going for a pretty much free dinner and evening of entertainment. But then again, all the people who actually matter will surely be at the church... I'd rather have a half empty church of people who really care about us than a full church full of people who are broed and don't want to be there.

Usually people go if it's at the RH. This is FH second marriage so no church for us but I would've if circumstances were different and I would be upset if noone showed.

i went to a wedding upstate last year (rochester) we flew up there..and one of fh's friends didnt go to the ceremony...he was like ehh whatever..i couldnt believe it..i mean u travel to a wedding and all u do is go to the reception?!?!
i love going to the ceremony..i mean it may not be the so called fun part..but its the part that makes u cry/happy/excited so i love it
i can understand if people cant make it cause theyre working..but i think it is kinda messed up to go to the reception but notthe ceremony bc they just dont feel like it

Re: Anyone annoyed by this?
this is one of my pet peeves - i have never gone to a reception and not gone to the ceremony although i HAVE gone to a ceremony and not a reception!
so annoying - but you know what? a LOT of people don't know how to act in church ( talking, answering cell phones, being disrespectful ) so i think it may be better sometimes to have a smaller crowd!

it upsets me but we're having our ceremony at 4pm on a Friday so i don't expect people to take off work for us. The important people will be there.
i think it's rude to not come to the ceremony if you can make it, but i cant let myself freak out over it. i'm convinced no one is gonna be at the church already as it is.

same here... i completely agree some people just don't know how to act in church- *FH's family (since they are not catholic- FH converted though thankfully). That is one main reason we aren't doing a mass- just a ceremony in the church
But I mean the ceremony is the MOST important part- that is where we become man and wife (the meaning of this celebration haha)

I agree its very true...I am not expecting ALL my guests to show up at the church, not even half...that would be a bit too much though. I understand though, some live far from the church and then to go back home get ready then go to the reception it can be a pain...Also keep in mind there will be people there that you aren't that close with...Ive gone to weddings where i didn't know the people that well so i didn't go to the ceremony

Yeah- it is kinda rude. It's like they don't care about anything but the party....lol

Re: Anyone annoyed by this?
I agree. I get really annoyed when people skip the actual ceremony, not because they can't make it, but just because they'd rather not go and would rather just go to the party instead I remember the first time I heard someone say that they were doing that, I thought it was really od and rude. If I'm invited to a wedding I always make my best effort to be there for the ceremony... it's the most important part and without it there would be no reception!!!!
