Anyone been to Duvet in NYC?
Okay, so if anyone remembers I am clueless about being trendy and I am trying to plan the bachelorette party for my very trendy sister.Anyone know if the club Duvet is good? It looks kind of cool, but someone told me they plan mostly hip-hop and it's a ghetto crowd. Looking at reviews and photos though, it seems like it's a mixed crowd and they play mixed music.
I know my sister prefers house music. Has anyone been there and can they recommend it?

Re: Anyone been to Duvet in NYC?
We went there for my cousins bachelorette party (they have hunk-mania there) and it was raunchy! We stayed about 20 minutes afterwards when it becomes a club but hated it and ended up going to a lounge across the street and then porkys. Unfortunately i dont remember the type of music they played but i dont think it was house.

Re: Anyone been to Duvet in NYC?
Other clubs that were recommended were Pink Elephant, Kiss and Fly, House, and a few others. I'll check out mansion, thanks!

Re: Anyone been to Duvet in NYC?
It used to be good a couple of years ago... but then it completely changed. Became a hip hop club and that is ALL they play now. I stopped going after that.I also would not use the term 'ghetto crowd' unless you want to create drama.
I hear pink elephant is good. Mansion is also nice as they play a mix of music.

Re: Anyone been to Duvet in NYC?
hip hop doesnt automatically mean ghetto. Every crowd comes with their share of a-holes. I tend to stay away from house crowds cause I dont really like fist pumping, wife beater guys in my face on ecstasy. Ive been to Duvet and had a great time a few years ago. No club is going to be perfect. Youre going to deal with door issues, hosts expecting you to buy bottles, etc. Especially the more 'trendy' they are. I work at a club in NYC and see the process everyday.

Oh, I definitely don't want to create drama. Sorry if I offended. I simply meant she said people were not dressed at all for a club, they were wearing jeans, tees, and ball caps. Most clubs I know have a dress code.

yeah, I don't like clubs or crowds, but my sister definitely likes thes the wife beater fist pumper scene!
And we are expecting to have to buy bottles and get a table, but if there are 10 of us it should be OK.
What club do you work at?

Okay then Duvet is not for her. My co-worker just told me Pink Elephant is a good time and house music. I work in Midtown but its definitely NOT the club for your sis.

Re: Anyone been to Duvet in NYC?
Look into Branch and Nikki Midtown. Home is also good, but more difficult to get in to.

May 2nd. We have dinner reservations @ 8:30, so we will probably be hitting the club around 10:30/11:00.

I used to work at Nikki Midtown. It wasnt my cup of tea. Sometimes ended up being an older crowd.

Re: Anyone been to Duvet in NYC?
We did my MOHs bachelorette party ar Duvet.... that was before it was all hip hop. It was really awesome but very expensive if you want a table/bed. I've been to Guest House, which is right by Home...its OK... a little on the small side.Pink Elephant can be hard to get into. I would try Mansion

Re: Anyone been to Duvet in NYC?
from what you describe your sister likes, then i think pink elephant is more her place. Although be warned that they can be very strict with their door policy.Pacha is very into house music(its the old sound factory)
but my suggestion is look at the night you want to go and see which club might be best for that such as special dj guest appearances and who is promoting it. See a club can be one way one night and different another night. A promotion company will host a club on a friday and then a completely different promotion company will host it on a saturday, so depending which night you go it can be a completely different experience. Prime is also big into house and also Marquee would be good for what you want, it will have house, and upstairs in the vip is hip hop but to tell you the truth, if you plan on getting a table with bottle service MOST vip areas play hip-hop. Almost every club ive been to in the city in the vip area, they play hip hop.
My suggestion is to go to the 20's street between 10th and 11th avenue, theres one club after another. You can try out Marquee, if not go just a few short blocks down to Mansion(old crobar) or if not go across the street to Prime(old quo, which then was myst and now prime) be warned again that the lines at both mansion and prime can be insane. Call up ahead of time or look at their sites and find out who the promoter is, and just say the promoters name at the door.
Also right there is home and guest house. I know Sammy K who owns dirty stay out did the party there, so you can call and get on his guestlist or say his name at the door. If you say his name at the door at clubs he is promoting that night you should be good.
Gansevoort or 230 5th would also be good for what your sister wants or tenjune.

Re: Anyone been to Duvet in NYC?
thanks Espo. Where ever we go, I want to be on the list before we all get out of the limo. The last thing I want is for us to be standing in line somewhere.those are some great suggestions about things I never knew, so thanks!
