ha ha, i was just talking about morocco yesterday. i heard bad things however. this woman has traveled a lot and she replied that it was scary over there...she stayed by the tour guide all the time. she just felt that eyes were always on her and it was not her favorite place to go.

No, but I just want to say that DH wanted to go there for our HM. I'd actually LOVE to go there, but just couldn't work it out for a HM. Keep me posted if you decide to go, I'm sure that would be an amazing trip!

I heard the same things about it. We met some people in Germany over the summer who had just been and they said it was very shady and dirty.

Interesting. It seems so amazing. I hadn't had a chance to talk with the TA about it yet. Thanks for the advice. Anyone else?

I stopped there in Tangiers on a cruise I took. Some people wouldn't even get off the ship. I took a tour of the Casbah which was amazing - you could definitely get lost in there and you need a tour guide. They also lock it down after a certain time and then you can't get out until morning. We also went out to the country and it was beautiful. You do have to be careful though - someone in our group was video taping our tour group and saw someone try to pick my pocket. Savvy New Yorker that I am, I didn't have anything in my pockets. You do have to be careful but I found it a very interesting place to visit.

I've been there when I went to Spain, you can take a Ferry ride from the south of Spain, right to Morroco which is right across from them. The Ferry ride brings you to Tangier which is a big port area that is very busy, touristy and not really that nice. So it's not really the true real cultural view of Morrocco that you find more inland. But it seems interesting, It was a little intimating since they are more aggressive in that area. If we werent with a tour group I'm sure it would have been worse. It's probably best to go to the country sides of Morrocco in a nice hotel.

Re: Anyone been to Morocco?
I had expressed interest to my Mom about traveling there a few years back and she told me not to since I was Israeli. I have a friend who went there 2-3 years ago on a tour and the tour group was walking down the street and one of the women in the group got punched in the head, randomly, by a Moroccan person - this happened in front of the US Embassy.

I haven't been but it's on our list.
If you've travelled a bit and are comfortable with different experiences, you'll be fine. Most 'tourists' are a little out of their element, but if you're culturally sensitive at all and educate yourself on proper dress and behavior while you're there, you'll be fine.
I have a few friends that have been, and my cousin lived there for are year.
Some tourists don't realize that tank tops and shorts are like if someone came here and went topless. Just read up and be respectful, you'll have a wonderful time.
