Anyone been to SPAIN?

Anyone been to SPAIN?

I was supposed to go to Playa del Carmen, Mexico for my honeymoon, however my hotel was closed after the hurricane!

So, I just booked SPAIN instead. We are using my Aunt and Uncle's timeshare and they had an opening in Spain, and I sort of blindly jumped into this...

I was wondering if anyone has been to Spain and what you can recommend?

Our hotel is in the South part of the country (in Malaga) on the Mediterranean.

Any info would GREATLY be appreciated! THANKS! h

I loooooove Spain! I studied there for 6 months during college and fell in love with it. I haven't been to Malaga or Marbella but I have heard it is amazing. You will not be disappointed! There is so much beauty and history in that country and it will take your breath away!

Re: Anyone been to SPAIN?

I went to Spain last summer with a group of my girlfriends.

We went for two weeks in August and kinda toured many areas - one of which was in Malaga - specifically the area called Marbella. I cant tell you very much about it since we stayed there for like a day and a half - but the weather was gorgeous and the beach was amazing. We stayed at a hotel on the boardwalk - I think it was called Princess something - cant remember exactly. It really reminded me of the caribbean of Europe, if that makes any sense.

If you have any questions just ask - but because we were only there for such a short time - i dont know how helpful i can be.

Never been, but my parents and other people I know have. I have heard so many wonderful things about Spain. Malaga is suppose to be beautiful.
FH is dying to go to Madrid, so we are going on our one year anniversary. You should try to go to Madrid for at least a day.

The only place I heard that was not so great is Barcelona.

I don't think you will be dissapointed at all.

LOVED IT!!!!

I took an 8 day bus tour of Spain and fell in love with the country. I've never been to where your timeshare is but we did visit Costa Del Sol and I didn't want to leave.

Enjoy!

I've been to Spain many times. Malaga is the airport that services the Costa Del Sol area but there are many different towns along that section of the coast. I'm not sure if that's where your hotel is but it's quite a large city. Marbella is very ritzy, especially Peurto Banus (go there for a day trip if you can). I've stayed in Fuengirola and Benalmadena and they were both very nice. Fuengirola has a good market a couple of times a week. The Costa Del Sol is extremely busy in the Summer (June, July and August) but now it should be much quiter and probably nicer. I don't know if it will be hot enough in November for the beach. There are probably hundreds of restaurants and hotels, so I can't recommend any. A good day trip is Gibraltar and Morocco by boat. FM me if you have any other questions.

Thanks so much! I think we are going to Mijas Viejo (or something like that) in the mountain area but not too far from the coast. It will be too cold for the beach 60-70 degrees, but I am ok with it... as long as it's not snowing! I heard that the Morocco trip was a little dangerous because they don't like Americans there for some reason? (That could just be my naive friend though).

Thanks for the information though!!!

I lived in Spain for a year and I loved it. It is beautiful down there. If you have a chance, head to a beautiful little town up north called 'Santillana del Mar'. It is quite a trip, but it is worth it. It is one of the most romantic little towns in Spain. We stayed at a little inn that was so quaint and cozy. If you don't have time, Granada is also awesome.

Thanks so much everyone for all of the recommendations!

Anyone know what the driving is like there? Do you think we need to rent a car? If we do rent one, do they drive crazy and on the other side of the road??? Thanks!!!!!!!!

Re: Anyone been to SPAIN?

Yes, Marbella is a resort town close to Malaga, great for shopping and eating. You should definitely visit one of the white towns in the hills, Rhonda is well known, and it has an awesome bull fighting ring to visit. Also, you will be fairly close to Gibralter which offers a quick ferry ride over to Morocco where you can take guided tours of various cities. Morocco is a magical place, but quite a culture shock. There is so much to explore in the area you will be in, try to take advantage of it all. Of everything I did in Spain, visiting Morocco is my fondest memory.

And driving, it is easy to get around by car, we rented when we went and it was like driving here. Just stay to the right so that the speed demons may pass(everyone drives fast in Europe). Definitely rent a car!
