Anyone been to the Reception House?

Anyone been to the Reception House?

My aunt is considering hosting my cousin's bridal shower at the Reception House in Flushing on Northern Blvd.

Has anyone ever been there? Good or bad reviews?

I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks tons!

Re: Anyone been to the Reception House?

I live near it and to be totally honest it doesn't look so hot (JMO). I guess it might be okay for a bridal shower but I would not recommend it for a wedding. I think it kind of looks run down. But you guys should take a look anyhow.
There is an awesome place that was recently opened in Astoria if you guys want to check that out. It's called Renaissance and it's on 21st Street. It's really gorgeous. I have a strong feeling that's the place my mom booked for my shower. And if it is I will not be the least bit mad at her.

I know they have a website but I can't remember it right now. If you're interested FM me and I'll get it for you.

we live near there also and went to look at it as well for a wedding. The garden area is small and rundown with a fence along the garden that was so filthy and brown pealling it turned me off imediatly. The old manager? didnt seems to be anyone else there greeted us while he was nice he seemed to REALLY want my business cause he said yes to anything i asked for him to throw in. The two rooms were nice alittle run down. Theres no gathering place/lobby or not one that I noticed. All in all id say you could find a MUCH better place. Even a nice restaurant in my opinion would be better

Went to a wedding there and christening. NO for a wedding shower it was fine.

Didn't the Reception House move into a newer building a few years ago?? They're not next to the old movie theater anymore.

Thanks for the feedback ladies.

I thought they moved from the old location and renovated an old restaurant into the new Reception House about 3 years ago. It has a water fountain outside - is it the same one? Is it run down already?

Unfortunately, she has already made up her mind and booked the place for the shower. I suggested she go and check it out...and to even taste the food...and she disregarded me completely (which is part of a much bigger issue, and too much to get into here. )

Re: Anyone been to the Reception House?

marcela - LOL. I grew up near there. I actually went to school at St. Andrews. It was odd for me to read your post and see that someone else knows that area like I do (by the stuff that was once there.)

Did you know that the old movie theatre (the UA Quartet) is now an Eckards Drug store and a Macy's bed outlet?

Hey Karen, I live by there also. Went to OLBS. The Reception House was once the Villa Bianca. We had our HS 10th year reunion there and it was okay. I'm sure for a shower it will be fine.

I work right around the corner from St Andrews!

I always go to that Genovese now! LOL

All my family functions when I was younger were at the villa bianca actually. I miss it. I miss those cookies with the powedered sugar on top! I grew up on those!

Re: Anyone been to the Reception House?

I used to live in Queens and my stepsister had her Sweet Sixteen there about 5 years ago when it was still in the old location, it was ok, it was a little rundown but I heard the new location is much nicer. It looked much nicer from the outside the last time I passed by there.

I looked there two years ago at its new location. It is cute and on the smaller side. The garden was well maintained and full of lovely flowers. Actually, the day I went there was a baby shower being hosted. I think it is a great spot for a shower! Any way, it is the people that make the shower, not the place!

Wow - more great comments! Thanks Ladies!

My two big concerns are always food and cleanliness. It sounds like it will be just fine.

Besides, as long as my wine glass is filled, I'm sure to have a real good time!

Thanks again!

Wow is that place still around??? I only live about 7 blocks away (until Thursday!!)

I havent been there for eons...I just wanted to comment that I was shocked it's still around.

ETA: I read all the posts...I see it moved. Where the heck is it though? It still sounds like it's in my vicinity.

Do you remember the Amber Lantern that use to be a reception place on Northern Blvd. My brother had his first wedding there years ago and that place is long gone.

Wow, the Amber Lantern, I went to a Sweet 16 there in 1986. The Reception House is where the old Villa Bianca was (168th & Northern). :) How things change....

Karen: LOL! I I don't live far from there. I live off of Francis Lewis Blvd. I remember going to that theater when I was in highschool. That place was such a DUMP!
I went to St. Kevin's. Where did you go to highschool? I went to Prep and graduated in 1996.

ETA: I've driven by there and the place looks fine! It is the Old Villa Bianci but I'm pretty sure the Reception House re did it when they bought it. I actually went to St. Kevin's with the owner's grandaughter.

Hi Karen, I went to a wedding there a few years ago and I really didn't like it.

I can highly recommend Bruno's on the Boulevard in Jackson Heights. One word--AWESOME!!!

Re: Anyone been to the Reception House?

Marcela, I'm a tad bit older than you...by the time you graduated from High School I already graduated from college and had been working for 2 years! I went to St. Agnes for H.S. and graduated 15 years ago this year (gasp!)

Old Time Bride: Just curious - what didn't you like about the place? Anything catastrophic? Its just for her shower and NOT the wedding.

I remember the AmberLantern too. My family used to eat there. I think it is now an indoor mall. My dad still lives in that area and I visited him this past weekend. Very few of the old time stores are still around. Do you remember Murrays on Northern? We used to buy our St. Andrews uniforms there.

'Memories....'

Karen.....Yea...Murray's. They had the whole block. My brother used to get his Toughskins there. We got our OLBS uniforms there. :)

We are the same age.

Toughskins... ROTFLMAO

I just laughed so loud, DH thought I was laughing at David Letterman's monologue.

He wants to know if anyone remembers 'Adventurers Inn'

ETA: Karen, I went to Faggie Aggie too

Elizabeth...we used to go almost every Friday night w/ the folks & grandparents. Many of my baby pics are on the Merry Go Round & pony ride there. :)
