there was no cost or min guarantee for blocking rooms, so we estimated on the high end and blocked 35. we have a lot of OOTers (and to be honest I thought more of our OOT friends would be coming) so we figured better to block too many. The last time i called we had 20 booked, most for 2 nights each.
Usually you'll get a discounted rate and then the rooms are released after a certain date.

Our hotel wouldn't let us book rooms until exactly one year before. I would check it out though bc usually there's only one suite so you want to grab it.
We booked 30 rooms and got them for $189 each. We are having an after party there (wedding ends at 6) Make sure you ask about shuttle service (if needed) and if they provide more than one shuttle no charge if you have a certain amount of rooms blocked.
We are also doing a morning after brunch at our hotel.

Fox Hollow Inn and Glen Cove Mansion have price guarantees, you pay 75-100% of what is not booked, and forget their prices. The rest I spoke to hold rooms til one month before, then they are let go, no charge:
My prices are for Mem. Day Weekend Garden City Hotel $249.00 double, $269.00 King Holiday Inn Westbury $159.00 Fairfield Inn Syosset $139.00 Long Island Marriott $189.00 Red Roof Inn Westbury . . . . cant' recall, but around $149?
I booked 15 at GCH, but it's 15 nights, not rooms, and we'll need more, but they can always add . . . me and the BP are staying there, as are my parents, and it turns out, lots of my guests . . . .
The rest I booked 10 ROOMS (not nights) except HI, which is next door to my hall .. . booked 15 rooms for three nights.

I did LI Marriott in Uniondale ($179) & LaQuinta Inn which is in Garden City. ($169) I booked 20 rooms & 10 in the other. LaQuinta is the only hotel I found that gives Continental Breakfast. I would do it as soon as you are able.

For the Melville Marriott you have to book at least half of the rooms in the block or you pay for them....It is so nervewracking because everyone books at the last minute
We also have rooms at the Executive Inn at Woodbury and the rate is $140.

we got our LQ rooms for $139/night but we booked back when they were Wingate Inn and they honored that price. Includes free internet, continental breakfast and a free shuttle for every 15 rooms (i think it's 15?) but 1 room x 2 nights = '2 rooms' so we have enough for 2 shuttles :)

We blocked rooms at the Hyatt for a rate of $155/night. I know it's less in non-summer seasons though...we blocked 13 rooms for Saturday and 10 rooms for Sunday (our wedding is a Sunday). At the Hyatt your guests have to book at least ten of the rooms or you are responsible for paying for them though....not all hotels require that. FH and I made sure that we had more than 11 people who were going to book rooms before we signed the contract!!
