We are planning on cruising for our hm...we know the ship, the date of departure....do we really need a travel agent?
Those of you who booked your own..do you think you saved alot of $$$, and what site did you use?
TIA

Re: Anyone book their own honeymoon?
i booked mine using my aaa discount. i booked online.
i then booked airfare, also online. the hardest part was deciding which airport... i live in nj, and we had a lot of choices there.
it was all very easy. entire hm airfare, hotel, cruise for 2k

i used the travel website for aaa. they did offer getting airfare at the same time.
we've never been to seattle (where the cruise is shipping from), so we decided to stay there for a bit. this way, i didn't have to worry about getting from point A to point B.
if for any of this doesn't make sense, fm me and i'll give you more details of what i did.
best of luck on deciding what to do

Re: Anyone book their own honeymoon?
I've booked a cruise directly through the cruise line and the airfare separately. I tried it together in a package through Expedia and I had a better deal.
It wouldn't hurt to contact a travel agent for a quote to see if they can get you a better deal than if you book it on your own!

Re: Anyone book their own honeymoon?
I booked ours, and it was easy and no real need for a TA... i think a TA is necessary if you are going to a few islands (ie Hawaii, etc) and there are lots of 'moving parts' involved.. we are just flying directly to aruba, one hotel, fly home.. so it worked out best to book ourselves
if you know all the things you need i say go for it!

Re: Anyone book their own honeymoon?
We planned our own honeymoon. We are spending 5 days in Miami and then going on a 7 day cruise and we booked it all ourselves. We just logged onto Carnival.com and made the reservations and same thing with the hotel and plane tickets. Its cheaper than doing it through a travel agent.

We are booking our own HM -- going to Key West and staying in Bed and Breakfast there. I figured it would be easy for us to arrange that ourselves.

Re: Anyone book their own honeymoon?
We booked the hotel through our timeshare, the airfare directly through Iberia and the care rental directly through Avis - all in all, spent less than $3000 for 10 days in Southern Spain.

Im actually in the process of booking my HM. If you know where you want to go you should just book it an get it over with. I would price it out yourself you can save some $$$

Re: Anyone book their own honeymoon?
We normally book all of our vacations online. The only reason that we booked our honeymoon through a travel agent is because we weren't doing regular round-trip airfare. We're going from JFK to HI to Las Vegas, back to JFK. The TA was able to get us a great price on the airfare and I didn't have to call a million different airlines.

Re: Anyone book their own honeymoon?
We booked our own cruise HM. Sometimes we use vacationstogo.com but usually find prices to be similar to those given directly by the cruise line. We are using Carnvial, think they are great. NCL reservations stinks, from my experience. We booked airfare with jet blue. I don't think you'll have a problem, good lucK!

Re: Anyone book their own honeymoon?
I'll be booking my own, but I love planning vacations. I couldn't imagine having someone else do it for me because I'm such a control freak about it!
I think a TA is good if you're doing multiple hotels, destinations, etc ... or if you don't travel often or typically organize your trips. It takes out a lot of the stress, and they do get you better deals sometimes.
