Anyone care to help out an 'old' bride? Tying a corset....
I am an 05 bride that has not posted on here in forever but I really need help for my sister. I remembered how much help I used to get back in my wedding planning days and wondered if you guys could help!
Any tips on tying/lacing up corsets? When it was my wedding day I had a coordinator, my 2 sisters, and my hair lady helping.
My sister is having her wedding celebration dinner this weekend and its just going to be me there that needs to help her tie hers. She was married last week at the Town Hall and I royally messed up the back of her dress. It was a quick ceremony with no professional pictures so it was okay. This weekend...we are having professional pics and family so its needs to be perfect, if not a little better than last week!
I looked online but most of the tips are goth looking corsets or renaissance ones...I am just talking the simple bridal gown corset.
Any tips or tricks?? I told my sister I was going to have to put my knee in her back for leverage to do this - please help!!!

hmmmmmm...
My first thought is maybe head to Georgette's in hicksville. They sell bras and the like there and the staff is BEYOND helpful and generous with their time. They may be able to help you by showing you what to do.
Their staff is not young....so they have likely seen it all....meaning in types of 'sucking in things'...and i mean that in the BEST possible way ever!
They were amazing women to work with for my wedding and i'm sure they'd be willing to help if they can!!!

Well I know when they were teaching my mom at the bridal salon for my dress, they said it's like lacing up a shoe, and that you need to just keep tightening....I don't remember much else though, sorry.....anyone else?

I found this in a wedding mag, hope it helps!
The wearer should hod the dress by the side seems tight across the front of the body
Thread the lace through the top loops inwards out and make the lace even on both sides
Cross the lace from the right side to the left, thread through the loop inwards out
Continue this whole way down to the bottom of the bodice. Don't worry about pulling it tight at this stage
Manipulate the lace tight from the top to the bottom, neatly. The wearer should keep hold of the bodice at this stage
When you have it sufficiently pulled in, tie the lace into a knot
Either tie the lace into a bow or tuck the lace inward into the skirt
Top tip: If you are going to tuck the lace inwards then it is a good idea to thread the lace outwards in through the last set of loops, so that you can make the knot on the inside.
Good Luck!

It is exactly like tying a shoe. Have your sister smooth the front of her dress over her bust and stomach as tightly as she can, then sort of push the bodice towards her back with her hands splayed open, fingertips pointed downward. Let her hold the dress this way until you finish lacing the dress, tightening as you go.
By holding the dress, she is keeping the front tight so you don't have to pull so hard on the back. This is how I was laced into my dress at the bridal shop and by my bridal attendant.

Tie from bottom up and from top bottom. I have a corset from Fredericks the the ties meet in the middle where you can really pull to get the tightness you want.
