I don't have a quote to share but went to Kauai last April to visit FH's brother. Our airfare alone was $1000 a piece and we probably spent at least another 1000 on food/activities. We didn't pay for a hotel so we saved that which is huge and why we went. It's beautiful and if you can go, definitely do it, but it will be expensive.
we went to Oahu in Feb 2007. We paid $1400 for 2 plane tickets and 5 nights at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach. We went from Feb 17-23. The hotel was beautiful and our room overlooked the beach. As soon as you walked out of the hotel you were on Waikiki Beach.
DH and I did Hawaii for our honeymoon. We went to Oahu, Maui and Kauai. We booked it all on her own. We were able to get our airfare with inter-island flights for $540 pp on travelocity.com (from Newark). We got great hotel deals on hotels.com and orbitz.com. We also booked our rental cars through priceline.com. It was so much cheaper doing it this way. Also know that food and excursions are expensive when you're there. Try to book things in advance because you tend to get a discount doing it online.
