We have to go to our pre cana mass on Sunday where all the engaged couples will be blessed. I think it will be really noticable if I don't take communion so I feel like I need to go to confession. I haven't been to confession since before confirmation! What do you do/say?

Re: Anyone Catholics been to confession lately?
Haven't been to confession in a really long time, they actually offered confession at our Pre-Cana Engaged Encounter and MANY people did not take communion (for various reasons).

Hmm....that is interesting. I think there will only be like 15 couples there at a regular mess so I will feel worse than I usually do when I very rarely attend mass and don't accept communion. Darn Catholic guilt!

And what do they do once you tell them? It's really been a long time since I have gone! They will probably tell me to recite prayers I don't know or somethign.

i dont think they ask that question and quite frankly it is not a priest's business to ask you that sort of question. that is between you and god.

I didn't even go to church right before pre-cana and no one noticed and not everyone in our class belonged to our church. I wouldn't worry!

Re: Anyone Catholics been to confession lately?
If you go to confession you kneel & say forgive me father for I have sinned, it has been _____ months/years since my last confession.
He says something, you list your sins
Then usually say the Act of Contrition
He says, say 5 hail marys etc.
You leave
I'm a 3rd grade teacher & we just finished reconciliation w/ the kiddos

I think I got really lucky. I hadn't gone in more years than I can count and I went with my Mom to the church she goes to. The priest was wonderful, when I told him how long it had been he welcomed me back, had me tell him why I was away. Basically, we just talked. He granted me absolution, gave me a choice of the Our Father or Act of Contrition then told me to go into the church and reflect on our conversation. That was it! He's really great and at the risk of sounding like a dork, I don't think I'll ever forget him.

im nots saying its right- but my friend from work went and that is what the priest asked her. I know other couples who were in the same sitch- but I am sure every church is different.

Neither of these topics was at all addressed at the pre-cana I went to. They certainly talked about the importance of having a relationship with the church and the importance and beauty of sex in a marital relationship, but we were not asked personal Q's and they were not negative like this at all. It was a pleasantly surprising positive experience. But I guess it must depend in part on who runs it.

Re: Anyone Catholics been to confession lately?
Now I try to go at least once a month. I hadn't gone in a long time and was very nervous, but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My advice would be if you haven't gone in a long time, I think it is important to go before you receive the sacrament. Like another poster said, tell the priest it's been awhile, you'll be amazed at how helpful they are and how great you will feel afterwards!

Re: Anyone Catholics been to confession lately?
I go every Saturday night with my mom and DH and Daughter go Every Sunday Morning they like that mass better...
In the preist eyes they think we are living as brother and sister LOL LOL
We have been married for 11 years will be in June I had to get a Lack Of Form from My Ex , DID that with the church I work for..
Now we are just waiting for a our officialy Vow Blessing Mass which just happens to fall on our oddical wedding date June 24 2006 which was June 24 1995... Then 2 wks after my husband will be able to make his Communion/Confirmation his parents had there first 2 make theres and the last 2 not..
Go to church the worst the preist will make you do is the Rosary...
Dh has never been to confession and he will have to go soon they usually have it on a Thursday night.
The last time I went the preist made me do 1/2 the rosary..
Not bad
Just make sure you have a little card with the act of contrition...
I don't like how confession is now I am used to the box with the thing that goes back and forth not a curtain in front of you..
