Re: Anyone crochet?
I love to crochet!!!! I'm so glad there's a fellow crocheter!! I find it to be really relaxing, and it stops me from snacking all night long in front of the tv.
Hopefully I can help!

Re: Anyone crochet?
oh yeah...good.
I am making an afghan, because I have so much trouble with the other stiches. so I am about 6 rows in...and it is starting to turn..meaning the first row seems a bit longer than the last...almost like I am making one big circle...I am so upset and I don't want to start over...how can I rectify it? should I try and make the next couple of rows longer to straighten it out? can I unravel the first row at all?
My friend and BM is pregnant and I really want to get this to her by March...any ideas?

Re: Anyone crochet?
i hope i'm picturing this correctly . . .
are you counting your stitches?? it is possible you skipped a stitch or two and are decreasing by accident?? you may have to pull some out unfortunately to get it to even back out. if it's not too bad, can you just put a nice border around all 4 edges when you're done? that usually evens stuff out.
if that's not the problem, can you describe it a little more for me??
Good luck!!!

Re: Anyone crochet?
no. i think you are picturing it correctly (unfortunately)
i should probably just cut my losses huh? and unravel it to where it started to turn...I only have 6 rows so far, so it isn't the end of the world, but just frustrating I guess....
I also always have trouble afer I turn, knowing where to begin....understand? its frustrating......
thanks

Re: Anyone crochet?
good luck!!!! i do the same time all the time - who wants to count to 100 for like 100 rows?? my MOH is also pregnant - i'm starting a winnie the pooh one - i think it 160 stitches by 195 rows!! madness to count that much!

Re: Anyone crochet?
i'll be honest, I don't count stitches...I just follow the row before...which apparently is a big no no...I probably should concentrate more, but I do it while watching TV etc.
oh well..never expected my first one to be great!
If you have any easy patterns to share...I would love some....
you going to Umbertos tonight?

Re: Anyone crochet?
Afraid not. I have to work late. Are you going? I'm sure it's going to be a blast!!
It's the funniest thing - but Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune fame) has the best crocheting books. Nice big pictures, all different stuff.

Re: Anyone crochet?
I crochet, also. It does sound like you missed a stitch or two and the rows are getting shorter, and therefore making it roundish. When you first start I would count your stitches (maybe just once per row, at the end of the row count before you move on) After a while you won't have to anymore, but it might keep you sane for now. I would also recommend starting with a basic stitch. I unfortunatly dont know the names of them... but the very basic ones even make nice afghans.
Good luck!!!
(ps, i have been making one baby blanket for like two years, i have no idea who is gonna get it, I will probably be married and ready for my own by the time I finish the silly thing!)
Thank you so much for the tips! I ended up unraveling a few rows and starting over.....
oh well...

I also crochet and to echo what the other ladies have said, it does sound as though you have missed a couple...

Re: Anyone crochet?
Ooh - I am excited - I crochet too and am happy to see there are others out there. Actually I learned years ago and I hadn't crocheted in a long time so it's almost like starting all over again for me. I just became an aunt a few months ago, so I have been crocheting Christmas gifts (trying to save $$ for the wedding, of course!).
Thanks for the tip on the Vanna White books - all the patterns and ideas I see seem out dated - where else do you go for new ideas???

Re: Anyone crochet?
I just found the cutest afghan book - Winnie the Pooh (my MOH is expecting). It's super easy - just make a big white block and then you cross stitch Winnie the Pooh on the front of it. It also has the patterns for his three friends - Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger.
